Wielding the Weapons of Words (Article) - 5/9/2006 2:44:35 PM
Wow, this topic from Free2Flow is so hot that the discussion is still continuing a month later!
I was thinking about the use of the N-word today, and I thought about the possibility of young people saying the word for shock value or just to rebel. For some young people, it's a good way to tick off their parents even more than getting their tongues pierced or changing their hair color to something out of a Crayola box. It could be rebellion against authority or society at large. It could even be rebellion against racists to them because they're saying a version of the word before the bigots can get to say the actual word.
Who knows? All we can do is theorize. Yet still, as for me, I'd rather not say it.
Celebrate the Arts and Community at what cost? (Article) - 4/21/2006 3:21:25 PM
We cannot celebrate what abuses us at any time we are caught off guard.

Bravo. Braaaaaaavoooooo.
This sentence really sums it up quite nicely:
"In the real world—a world where advancement is encouraged—those who don’t aspire for something will not be anything."

Cyrus,
I read your article with particular interest as my son often did the same thing you did and was ridiculed as well. He never sat at any one table in the cafeteria and often sat with the black students, laughing, carrying on, dancing with them along the walkways to class. He has never seen color and always looked to the heart. Most appreciated that. Some, of course, did not. He and I often talk about how color still gets in the way on both sides. I am proud of your stand, proud of willingness to venture back into the schools and share your wisdom with our Future America. Your steps will not be like those along the shoreline, washed away before dawn, but like those taken in freshly poured cement, to be with us forever. Thank you.

Precious man of God, the heavens don't know our colors.I understand and agree with so many things you have said. But also, angel, be aware that each and everyone of us have not had such privelege of priveledged worlds or non priveldged worlds.. I came from an extremly abusive home where I was degraded, had guns pointed at my head at age eight, sexualy abused, physicaly, you name it in all ways. I grew up with all kinds of obsticals, including bipolar manic depression but my faith, (not religion) my very faith inspired me to simply not want to hurt myself. I know society is like you said expects people to have a certian standard. I applaud your strength and guts to speak, dear man of God..I get that all the time discrimination ) because I live single, 42, no kids and don't have a marriage with a picket fence..You know what I am getting at.If you want, I would like you to see some of my poetry. I'll be back at the den in a couple of weeks...I am a prophet and I see when others are prophets too. Indeed your a voice for Almighty, dear one..Check out my article on Martin Luther King Jr. Have hope, strive to be diffrent. Many of us are not the carbon copy of some robot you can't even keep up.The fact that you write and your showing your work in many places tells me your passionate. God bless you, precious man of God...I solute your creativity and your strength.Yes, may the Father bless you up above..

There is TRUTH in this article, C A Webb! Very inciteful, fact-filled goodies that every creative type needs to hear on their climb to success. It's a sort of a predator and prey type of thing. We have to learn how to snare those leg traps way before we get to them. We have to look where we're walking. We have to watch our environment and the company we keep. Invite positive souls, exile negative thinkers. Very well written, C A!

History 2009 (Poetry) - 1/23/2009 1:48:31 PM
A well written write indeed! I enjoyed this very much, so many today want to point a finger at one individual or one group, or one minority! The recession of today has been created by overindulgence of many across the nation. One person cannot change the state of our economy or the many other problems that face our nation and each of us as individual citizens, we must all pull together and support each other and get behind our leaders! Well done!
Blessings,
Joyce B.

History 2009 (Poetry) - 1/21/2009 3:23:22 AM
This is a well written piece.I enjoy reading it.I would like to quote Yankee Player Lou Gerig "We as Americans and all walks of life are the luckiest people on the face of this earth" and we are lucky to experience and witness history right before our eyes.On Monday,CNN played the entire "I Have A Dream" speech and it gave me goosebumps and chills. To have the inaguaration the day after MLK's day is more sweeter than anything else in this world.I feel proud as an African-American,but most importantly as an American.Seeing people at the mall yesterday was like seeing all different flavors of ice cream in a big bowl of the human American spirit that is delicious to the hearts and minds.Everyone was on a big spoon of togetherness at its finest.Every American especially people watching it overseas and in other countries around the world was truly bless to see this day.If I have children,I am going to tell my children that I was there when Obama was inaguarated as the first African-American President and they will tell their grandchildren as well.take care of yourself

Heroes (Poetry) - 11/13/2006 10:12:57 AM
Very good! I love the flow of words. This is an important work that deserves recognition. We need not forget those heroes who put their lives on the line for us. I like the way you say, "Heroes don’t die. They rest." That hits right on the mark! Keep up the good work, C.A.

Heroes (Poetry) - 11/6/2006 7:08:03 PM
Beautiful words and so full of wisdom. Yes indeed Rosa Parks was a strong and very courageous woman. I love teaching about her inside my classroom, just as I do Dr. Martin Luther King, Abraham Lincoln, and so many other heroes that left behind a remarkable story to tell. I also loved my grandmother dearly and her words of wisdom still ring loud and true today, she has been gone in body since 1997 but still alive in spirit, through stories, pictures, and a lifetime of memories. Wonderful write, look forward to reading more.
Blessings,
Joyce Bowling
