Wielding the Weapons of Words (Article) - 5/9/2006 2:44:35 PM
Wow, this topic from Free2Flow is so hot that the discussion is still continuing a month later! I was thinking about the use of the N-word today, and I thought about the possibility of young people saying the word for shock value or just to rebel. For some young people, it's a good way to tick off their parents even more than getting their tongues pierced or changing their hair color to something out of a Crayola box. It could be rebellion against authority or society at large. It could even be rebellion against racists to them because they're saying a version of the word before the bigots can get to say the actual word. Who knows? All we can do is theorize. Yet still, as for me, I'd rather not say it.

Celebrate the Arts and Community at what cost? (Article) - 4/21/2006 3:21:25 PM
We cannot celebrate what abuses us at any time we are caught off guard.

Bravo. Braaaaaaavoooooo. This sentence really sums it up quite nicely: "In the real world—a world where advancement is encouraged—those who don’t aspire for something will not be anything." Atta boy. (smiles) Tami

When Black Isn't Beautiful (Article) - 4/10/2006 11:20:37 AM
Cyrus, I read your article with particular interest as my son often did the same thing you did and was ridiculed as well. He never sat at any one table in the cafeteria and often sat with the black students, laughing, carrying on, dancing with them along the walkways to class. He has never seen color and always looked to the heart. Most appreciated that. Some, of course, did not. He and I often talk about how color still gets in the way on both sides. I am proud of your stand, proud of willingness to venture back into the schools and share your wisdom with our Future America. Your steps will not be like those along the shoreline, washed away before dawn, but like those taken in freshly poured cement, to be with us forever. Thank you. When Black Isn't Beautiful (Article) - 4/9/2006 7:00:36 PM
Precious man of God, the heavens don't know our colors.I understand and agree with so many things you have said. But also, angel, be aware that each and everyone of us have not had such privelege of priveledged worlds or non priveldged worlds.. I came from an extremly abusive home where I was degraded, had guns pointed at my head at age eight, sexualy abused, physicaly, you name it in all ways. I grew up with all kinds of obsticals, including bipolar manic depression but my faith, (not religion) my very faith inspired me to simply not want to hurt myself. I know society is like you said expects people to have a certian standard. I applaud your strength and guts to speak, dear man of God..I get that all the time discrimination ) because I live single, 42, no kids and don't have a marriage with a picket fence..You know what I am getting at.If you want, I would like you to see some of my poetry. I'll be back at the den in a couple of weeks...I am a prophet and I see when others are prophets too. Indeed your a voice for Almighty, dear one..Check out my article on Martin Luther King Jr. Have hope, strive to be diffrent. Many of us are not the carbon copy of some robot you can't even keep up.The fact that you write and your showing your work in many places tells me your passionate. God bless you, precious man of God...I solute your creativity and your strength.Yes, may the Father bless you up above.. (((Hugs And Love, JoAnne )))

The Crabs Are Coming (Article) - 2/19/2006 1:10:17 PM
There is TRUTH in this article, C A Webb! Very inciteful, fact-filled goodies that every creative type needs to hear on their climb to success. It's a sort of a predator and prey type of thing. We have to learn how to snare those leg traps way before we get to them. We have to look where we're walking. We have to watch our environment and the company we keep. Invite positive souls, exile negative thinkers. Very well written, C A! Sage

Forgive You, Forget Me (Poetry) - 12/14/2013 11:25:29 AM
Yeah - EXCELLENT is a good word. Right off the bat I could tell i would like this poem. Poems that "flow" from the heart always capture my attention altho like many men i usually avoid "love" poem and the such... Very well done. (And been there and done that too!)

I Can't Be Stopped (Poetry) - 12/14/2013 10:57:55 AM
Wonderful, well thought out and delivered poem. The points you make are "right on" what this unique and detemined human being stood for for such a long time. - I've been away for years, but it today is a new day. Thanks for contacting me and feel free to contact me again any time. Jimmy L. Holder. aka Shypoet1

History 2009 (Poetry) - 1/23/2009 1:48:31 PM
A well written write indeed! I enjoyed this very much, so many today want to point a finger at one individual or one group, or one minority! The recession of today has been created by overindulgence of many across the nation. One person cannot change the state of our economy or the many other problems that face our nation and each of us as individual citizens, we must all pull together and support each other and get behind our leaders! Well done! Blessings, Joyce B.

History 2009 (Poetry) - 1/22/2009 1:05:38 PM

History 2009 (Poetry) - 1/21/2009 3:23:22 AM
This is a well written piece.I enjoy reading it.I would like to quote Yankee Player Lou Gerig "We as Americans and all walks of life are the luckiest people on the face of this earth" and we are lucky to experience and witness history right before our eyes.On Monday,CNN played the entire "I Have A Dream" speech and it gave me goosebumps and chills. To have the inaguaration the day after MLK's day is more sweeter than anything else in this world.I feel proud as an African-American,but most importantly as an American.Seeing people at the mall yesterday was like seeing all different flavors of ice cream in a big bowl of the human American spirit that is delicious to the hearts and minds.Everyone was on a big spoon of togetherness at its finest.Every American especially people watching it overseas and in other countries around the world was truly bless to see this day.If I have children,I am going to tell my children that I was there when Obama was inaguarated as the first African-American President and they will tell their grandchildren as well.take care of yourself

Heroes (Poetry) - 11/13/2006 10:12:57 AM
Very good! I love the flow of words. This is an important work that deserves recognition. We need not forget those heroes who put their lives on the line for us. I like the way you say, "Heroes don’t die. They rest." That hits right on the mark! Keep up the good work, C.A. C.S.H.

Heroes (Poetry) - 11/6/2006 7:08:03 PM
Beautiful words and so full of wisdom. Yes indeed Rosa Parks was a strong and very courageous woman. I love teaching about her inside my classroom, just as I do Dr. Martin Luther King, Abraham Lincoln, and so many other heroes that left behind a remarkable story to tell. I also loved my grandmother dearly and her words of wisdom still ring loud and true today, she has been gone in body since 1997 but still alive in spirit, through stories, pictures, and a lifetime of memories. Wonderful write, look forward to reading more. Blessings, Joyce Bowling

Responsibility 101 (Poetry) - 3/8/2006 12:03:18 PM
You know I am now reading this piece and you hit the nail on the head. Many of us have double lives. I'm like Elizabeth they end up in my office as well. This is great.

No Samaritan (Poetry) - 2/13/2006 4:36:04 PM
WOW!!! What nerve it took to write this piece. I'm just blown away by the depth of the meaning. It's amazing that some artists use their work to try to overshadow the deep dark secrets they try to hold in the closet. Just remember to keep pushing against the closet door cause sometimes some of the bones are exposed and you don't realize it.

Responsibility 101 (Poetry) - 2/7/2006 3:50:04 PM
Ha! They usually end up in my office. And then I have to spell RESPONSIBILITY. Good work.

The Wife of Lot (Poetry) - 10/4/2005 11:37:14 PM
Cyprus, you are a wonder! What a poignant write! It made me dash out of my study room and go look in the mirror! Most powerful message ever! "... Am I ready for my judgment? Since I have enjoyed a little of this and a lot of that, will I be prepared for my own accounting? I don't want to be so lost in who I am trying to be that I'm blind to see the downfall of the world in which I am creating for myself. ..." God bless, Cyprus! Sandie.

The Truth (Poetry) - 8/10/2005 8:36:51 PM
As I finished reading this, my mind went racing - all over the place (and omg, I can't type fast enough...) I understand this so well... the words, the intent... My father has denied for far too many years, and when I met with him two years ago to offer forgiveness, he simply hung his head and still couldn't apologize. He just mumbled something about 'being young and stupid'. There was nothing else from him. Yet, that day, I realized that he felt shame, and on some level, I knew he was sorry. It wasn't until recently (due to personal struggles of my own), that I am now able to say that my forgiveness is absolutely genuine. I have found incredible strength through healing, and I, too, am able to say the same. I know, I'm rambling... but I know that on some level, you understand too. I FELT your finish. I felt the emotion. I felt the sincerity, and I understood. Thank you for sharing the blessing of your work. A thousand hugs to you, Tami

SAVING (Face) (Poetry) - 8/10/2005 8:22:18 PM
Cy, Whenever I read your work, I find myself nodding affirmatively, silently saying "Yeah, go get 'em, Tiger." I can't help but smile. "To thine own self be true." ~ Shakespeare I sure have missed reading you, my friend. Tami

SAVING (Face) (Poetry) - 6/30/2005 9:08:58 AM
Well spoken my Brother, you keep doing what u do, let no one undermine the great things you have done and are doing for your people.

SAVING (Face) (Poetry) - 6/24/2005 3:06:41 PM
Cyrus, that was deep. I kow how you feel about people trying to figure out what's going on with you instead of asking. So they would rather prejudge or assume so keep you the good work because you are "true" to what you do. Valencia

My Brother's Keeper (Poetry) - 6/17/2005 11:34:53 AM
I am also an artist registered with VSA and Author, but at that time I was just painting, again your work is excellent. My brotha I know your face, I recognize the VSA I think we had a show in Washington D.C. it was in the beginning of the 90's I have to reflect back on my documents, I remeber your name, at that time the gallery was in Washington D.C. If I recall their was an image done of Martin Luther King.

SAVING (Face) (Poetry) - 6/17/2005 11:29:13 AM
My brotha your words are full of wisdom, and your style is a blessing from God, continue to have faith in self, and let your pen take you in the direction of the light. It is an honor to be in your house.

SAVING (Face) (Poetry) - 6/15/2005 2:31:11 AM
I save face to camaflouge the sensuality that has made my currrent reputation on that is now forever linked to my artistic personality. I agree with Brain here...keep up the great work you are doing my friend...love n luck....BHUWAN!!!!

The Truth (Poetry) - 3/5/2005 3:48:48 AM
like Sue said, what a heartfelt, great offer those were some excellent lines and questions to bring to the forefront, helping to keep the mind going focusing on the "real" hopefully the person out there will listen we know far to well how this tends to end evxellently penned piece

The Truth (Poetry) - 3/1/2005 10:40:10 AM
what a great offer...its easy to offer advice, harder to really be there when the advice is heeded. this is an excellent poem

The Truth (Poetry) - 2/28/2005 8:09:01 PM
Interesting and it is one that I think Micheal Jackson should face and others like him. Because the truth is he was abused and he has hide from it all these years. But then the fear of his father is plain. As it is in all of the people who are victims and violators of children.

The Wife of Lot (Poetry) - 1/15/2005 6:26:17 AM
I like this poem also. It is odd i was thinking of just this same thing the other day. I think that when Lots wife looked back it simply demonstrated human nature. To be disobediant to God and i think it was her way of looking back on her past. Instead of moving forward. I think we need to learn from our past, forgive those who have hurt us , and move forward. We cant move forward if we are looking back. Her reasons may never be known...but it was a great expression on your part.

I'm Sorry (Poetry) - 1/15/2005 6:16:35 AM
I think that was a beautiful poem and I think you did a great job of expressing yourself. You are an inspiration for me. It was definetly noteable that you have strong moral values as well and that is Great. Good luck!

Life's Masterpiece (Poetry) - 9/27/2004 2:15:49 AM
No greater human truth than this, "Our lives were narrow paths full of life’s briars and thorns that would have made it unbearable if I had not known that someday someone as special as you would come my way." If only those who call it quits too soon read your words. Keep sharing these truths Bro. Webb, blessin's cynth'ya lewis reed

Every Time (Poetry) - 9/14/2004 1:00:45 PM
This could be a fantastic monologue in a one act, one-actor play expressing hope vs. frustration leading to a decision. Consider it a new kind of writing adventure, then put it on a stage at an open community event outdoors in the very near future. Even if only at a spoken word stage venue. People are going to miss the gift God gave you if you keep this message "on the computer." blessin's cynth'ya lewis reed

But I'm not through undressing. May we all dare to be bare, and may the power of our courage clothe us with outrageous success. You ARE on your way to the sweetest of victories. . . Shame is a liar--you are SO much more than has not yet been imagined and nothing like those who will never pass level zero. blessin's and Smile, and right on right on RIGHT ON! cynth'ya lewis reed
