The Purpose of Poetry readings (Article) - 9/20/2006 4:18:51 PM|
I count epiphanies with a manicured hand, reading
My Work while someone screams another never
ending poem over the podium (being multi talented)
at the same time I notice the female poet in the
light blue capris slip her shoes off and open her
notebook; using peripheral eyes I try to see what's
left of the buffet; wondering how many long winded
poets signed in for open mike and how many cups of
coffee will I drink before ITS MY TURN? And, how
long have I been here, anyway? Two, three hours? I
wonder if its too cold to go outside for a smoke?
Oh, god, I remember that guy, tell me he isn't going
to read that prose piece again. Oh, I wonder where she
got that sweater? I should ask her when we take a break.
Why hasn't that guy finished? He isn't the "featured"
reader - give me a break! What time is it for Pete's sake?
How many times is she going to say, hellfire, anyway?
I wonder if I should take a few more M&Ms for the ride
home, a quick little chocolate fix just in case we don't
stop for coffee. Wow, that guy is good, I hope My Work
is That Powerful. If I duck down, could I make it across
the room without anyone noticing? Well, here goes...
Writer’s Workshops or How Do We Cope With Gerry? (Article) - 8/28/2006 10:27:50 AM
I quite agree with you..the whole purpose of the workshop is to improve your skills and keep you scribbling. A lot of handy hints are also exchanged at such gatherings and just the thought that there are others chewing the ends of their pencil while the blank page stares at them petulantly waiting to be filled up, is comforting.
Great write and info. :-) shoma
