CantCatcha Angus Ranch (Short Story) - 9/28/2003 7:58:38 AM
You're off to a good start. Your writer's voice is solid, your characterizations--excellent. I'd make two suggestions. One the abckground and setting should never overpower the plot. Sometimes less is more. Editors love to take their red ink pens and cross out every word they believe is unneccessary. To bullet-proof your work, you should edit for simplicity. Ask yourself as you reread, "Does this advance the story in some way?" A story needs to convey the sense it is inevitably going somewhere--to a climax where all elements come together. Second, This piece is very good, but the story's focus seemed to change halfway through. At first, I thought this was a story about a horse that was castrated but sold as breeding stock to a tenderfoot. Then, the story seemed instead to be about an easterner finding his roots, buying a ranch. In a longer work, both themes can coexist. The problem here is that the first theme was left unrersolved. I'm still waiting for the other shoe to drop, for the tenderfoot to discover you can't breed a gelding and that all his money was wasted, and that he was swindled. When I didn't see this expected outcome, I was disappointed. I do hope you intended to finish that part of the story--I know this is a work in progress. Good luck with it. I hope some of my rambling proves useful. Best regards, Lee Garrett.

WOW! You certainly covered a lot here. Abuse is such a horrible thing and the healing process can take a long time if not a life time. I wish you and your family a fast yet gentle healing. Thanks for sharing, a stepforward.

Hi D, I really liked this piece. Having seen wild horses many times myself, you captured the spirit. I collect art, also. One of my favorites is by Judy Larson titled "The Spirit Within". You have that! Thanks, Ron

True Treasures (Poetry) - 6/7/2008 4:07:51 PM
You know the true meaning to life and love. Expressed it very well in this write and I think I learned something new from it too. You cannot buy love, it has to be made and grown with thoughtfulness etc. Good write.

My cousin says thunder is God's angels bowling in heaven. i think butterflies are our dead ones spirits coming back to us to help us. Saw one after hubby's death Aug 17 07 and it was black with blue tinged wings and white spots, a blue monarch I believe. Really do like this write about nature and you are blessed with many lovely words to write. Great write**********

Wings of An Eagle (Poetry) - 6/7/2008 4:02:58 PM
Love the roar of the ocean and to watch the tides come and go. Don't live close enough, 3 hrs away in fact. My deceased hubby loved the Eagle and had many statues of them here at home. Freedom he liked and now he is with God in Heaven.

Have a 39 year old daughter Kaye, who loves horses. She collects statues of them. I won her a stuffed one for her Birthday July 4th last year at a carnival. Horses are good therapy for multiple schlerosis patients to keep them limber and helps them with their condition when they ride. Your love of horses shows through.

To D. Enise, I'm a 100% disabled Vietnam Veteran, I read your poem The Eagles Cry. I suffer with PTSD, because of my time in Vietnam and your poem, brought back alot of feelings. But most of all the words of the poem, hold a special meaning to me, along with the music, it gave me a feeling of peace of mind that I havn't felt in along time. Sincerely; Sgt. Wayne F. Stanley A Proud Vietnam Veteran

Horses are wonderful, aren't they? This is a great tribute to man's other best friend. Bless you for being the kind of person who knows who her friends are, and is a great friend herself. Compassionate and intelligent and in touch with Nature. Can't ask for more. 'Pea' <3

A wonderful ode to our magnificent equine friends, and I love this quote: "It has been said that the outside of a Horse does something good for the inside of man. Not many words ever spoken carry more truth..." And I truly believe that.
