The Old Mermaid's Tale (Book) - 12/6/2008 6:18:58 PM
Beautiful and lyrical I was totally captivated by Clair Wagner, the storyteller of Valentine's lyrical novel, The Old Mermaid's Tale. The story is set in a 1960's Lake Erie town. It's Clair's coming-of-age tale mixed with two love stories: Clair and Baptiste sandwiched between Clair and Pio. Valentine sprinkles her book with delicious folklore tidbits: Baptiste's Breton sea-lore, Lake Erie seamen tales, and tales and folk music from the early sixties. The setting evokes memories of the unique life of each town before chain stores and hotels took over. The characters are full-bodied. Sal, Baptiste, Tessie, Pio: they all deserve their own books. Valentine teased me with glimpses of their lives outside of the confines of this tale, and she left me with a longing to know more. I was afraid that this would be too much of a "girly" book for me, but I thoroughly enjoyed it, and was sorry when I finished it. I'm looking forward to more tales from Valentine.

My Last Romance and other passions (Book) - 12/12/2006 6:36:53 AM
My Last Romance is a short story anthology of eight romantic tales that speak of dishonesty, forbidden love and passion. Speaking of lives and emotions that most of us can relate to, this collection will touch your soul for many months to come. Kathleen Valentine writes with an honesty and flair that is both refreshing and poignant at the same time. The characters face a multitude of emotions and desires that mirrors the intensity of their own personal difficulties in life. But, that is not all. To be loved so deeply is something we all yearn for and this book surely helps you to believe that this is possible for every person to attain no matter how old they happen to be. Nothing I've read in the romance genre this year can possibly come close to this anthology for its breathtaking exploratory into the human psyche.

Home-made Pie & Sausage (Short Story) - 12/5/2006 6:18:12 PM
Great story. Well-written. It captured my attention right at the start and held it till the end. My mind is reeling as to the possibilities here. Well done, Kathleen. Thank you for sharing. I love short stories. Love and peace, Regis
