Experience, Strength and Hope (Book) - 6/30/2007 2:16:12 PM
It is very difficult to realize how large the universe is and that we are all connected; although wars make one wonder. Most of all, sometimes we get so caught up in what we do know that we don't fully realize how much we don't know. _Experience, Strength and Hope_ promises to be an inspiring but mind expanding read. Mom's can be like that...always something up their sleeves! That's a great memory. I write a lot about my mom as well...helps to keep her close if only in memory.

Broken (Short Story) - 9/3/2007 9:49:27 AM
Having had a bone graft on my left navicular wrist bone after nursing it in everyway that I could for nine years because the doctors kept saying, "Oh, that hairline fracture will heal itself," I can so identify. Still more than that, I love that the child in the story grew from the experience, survived the emotional scars and the physical pain, and seemed to have what I call that "smiling spirit" anyway. Really good read.

I found out... from a research chemist friend of mine, that I couldn't drink because of my Native American heritage, I didn't posess enough of the proper enzyme in my liver to process the alcohol into sugar and water. Instead it turned into...sugar...water...Folic acid, (fire ant bites) and mostly formaldahyde.....thank God I had a reason to stop...Why would someone as intellegent as I intentionally injest poison?...hence the name "fire water"....bless his heart
Why (Short Story) - 5/28/2007 2:50:20 AM
yeah, but, what if your right and they are wrong. But are the kind of assholes that would never admit it to you even though they find out you are?
Then what? You have no satiafaction, and they wil still hate you forever. Hard to know what to do...eh?
I've found instead of arguing, I let em be....they are still gonna hate you no matter. Just because your opinion differs. Just watch your back.

Enjoyed, I too am a feline lover, we have an old mama cat on our farm and now many offsprings have begun their own families, but I still find myself being partial to the mama cat...her name well, it suits her after so many litters of kittens...it's Boobs! Yeah, we don't call her name outloud very often, think my daughter inlaw gave her that name, not sure! Wherever it came from, it stuck. She's a great old girl, good mouser, always enjoys a pet on the head, never runs in the house unless invited, and doesn't sleep on the hood of your vehicle. A great little mother as well, who could ask for more! Enjoyed this my friend!

Mandi (Article) - 6/27/2007 10:49:37 AM
Back when I was a kid, about a week ago, no longer then that, we had a cat named Sunny and one day I said to Sunny, Sunny, don't take this the wrong way but I think that cats in general are sneaky, self-centered and very lazy...Sunny told me then that he'd sent a special message to all the cats in the universe that I was evil...and to this day there has been no mention of a treaty between cats and me.
But yours sounds OK...for a cat, and this was a very good write.
Peace and good luck with Mandi

trail of tears (American tanka) (Poetry) - 4/24/2011 1:59:18 PM
It sure was a tragic truly American story! I also wrote a lyric about this (in my poetry den) that as a vocalist/pianist I am hoping to finally record this spring. I chose to see it through the eyes of a historical participant in one of 'many trail of tears' the Native Americans went through in the late 1800's...
holy of holys (senyru) (Poetry) - 4/24/2011 1:56:12 PM
My favorite part of the Jesus Easter history (besides today: Resurrection Day)as shown in the movie I watched the other night (Greatest Story Ever Told)is when Jesus takes his robe sash and forcefully chases the money-changers out of the Temple Mount, meanwhile free some more captives: the doves, lambs they used for sacrifice and I think he said: "My Father desires mercy not sacrifice..." (don't quote me on that)...Your poetry gets you thinking.

My Tom used to like the verse where God said smoke filled the temple. I don't know where it is in the bible. I song that says Fly like an Eagle best. Only I do like this verse, but am a compulsive gambler myself. This verse makes me think of lots of things going on in my life. Won't tell all here though.

Common Thread (Poetry) - 7/7/2008 3:39:56 PM
I think this poem captures the meaning of "Diversity" and understanding people from different cultures and backgrounds. It is true, that the "tie that binds is stonger than we let on." Each day, we pass others on the street, in the train, or as we go about our business. But do we take time to know them? Do we reach out of our own comfort zone to help those who are from different cultures or backgrounds? Your poem is very insightful.

Stepping into the ocean waves is so comforting and a thrilling thing for me. Just wish I could do it more often. Love those rolling waves washing over my feet and the feelings of peace I get looking far out at sea and wondering if I'll ever cross it again. To go to England, that is?

Promise to God (Poetry) - 7/3/2008 9:29:35 AM
You are victory in Jesus, so looked after fondly by the creator, winning each and every day just with having his love and guidance. Worshipping him is so important too, and glorifying his name and him is meant for us to do each day. No energies really needed just prayers to him for uplifing and to get courage and Wisdom which he can give you and probably has already. Great write.
I Never Win (Poetry) - 7/3/2008 9:25:37 AM
He does take away stife, stand by us while we are living life, forgive us as we stay from him and come back again. I do respect him though. Forever and ever he will be. Eternity is waiting for me.
Careful What You Say (Poetry) - 7/3/2008 9:24:17 AM
I gossip lots, wish I didn't can't help myself. With my friends at Bingo they all do it. Sometimes I have to defend the person they are talking about. We should not hurt our friends or people we love either. Sometimes it is irrelevant what we are even talking about them for and just to stir up trouble is sometimes why we talk about others.
Floating (Poetry) - 7/3/2008 9:22:06 AM
Of to an enchanted island you must have went in this dreamlike state. Wonderment, torches surrounding you, friends giving you your last rites, darkness than light on the horizon, and peace at last.
Some day that will be but right now you are needed here on the den and on this earth. Everything is for a reason. Be true to yourself today too. LOL Lois C

Medium to XL (Poetry) - 6/26/2008 2:42:16 AM
Know the feeling, I am XL too but don't let it bother me. I am a happy fun loving person and what others think of me doesn't matter. My hubby always said more of you to love. Imagine that. Went to school alumni picnic Sat and did not feel out of place at all. All had put on some weight too. I like my food and when I want to eat, I eat.

Stealing My Brain (Poetry) - 6/4/2008 11:43:27 AM
It was a deflamation and that person has not self worth to steal your things and not give credit to you. Thieves do abound in this world, and this is thievery.
Wine, Whiskey and Me (Poetry) - 6/4/2008 11:41:17 AM
Must tell the truth too. Had a rum with coke yesterday on a hot afternoon. Should not of drank it by myself, but felt so lonely needing a lift up and pick me up. No harm done as I stopped with one. First in a long while in fact. Don't feel well in the stomach when I drink. But love rum and coke, it is my thing.

Conflict Caused (Poetry) - 5/30/2008 11:07:38 AM
Feels like some soothing music would have calmed you down. Fighting insights is hard and takes much energy. Believe me I do know. Have them too. Back and forth thoughts. Set aside a time to do what I like to do and they go away eventually.

You surely aren't letting the devil get you down. Neither am I, George. Not doing as other do is good advice too. Keep dreaming those dreams .ike I do and be peaceful. Live this write, and I love it too. Follows me everwhere, the devil does, and this poem is so good a write, I just adore it.
Aging (Poetry) - 5/13/2008 10:20:02 AM
My husband did not get all he wanted done either before his death last Aug. He moved on to a pain free world though, but left his spirit behind with me. Grieving but reading and writing on Author's Den is very good therapy. Aches and pains keep me from geeting things done too, but carry on just like you. Always willing to try.
My Earthly Father (Poetry) - 5/8/2008 9:22:38 AM
Sorry I just got into this to give you my sympathy. He is loved and remembered forever and is now in a better place and in no pain and is playing golf with the angels. Time heals all and we all go through losing someone sooner or later and much too often. Oh that we could keep them here but would not if they suffered much. Truthfully told in this write.**********
stare down time (Poetry) - 5/8/2008 9:19:37 AM
Cat always wins at my home anyway. She lets me know when hungry thirsty, wanted petting, time for bed, her eyes tell all. She is really angry when I go away from home to long and let her alone. That is awful for her but I am glad she misses me. Mandy is surely a special cat to you. Thanks for her photo.
Common Thread (Poetry) - 5/8/2008 9:17:02 AM
It is great to know we are tied together and one with God. Leaving our mortal things behind is not hard if we love God. We cannot store our treasures here on earth. Such a profound religious writing and I got much out of it, much more than mentioned here.**********

the first verse is not personal, you look at it as a mere object, then suddenly it becomes personal (let me grab you) Very different from your other stuff, quite abstract, which you know is my fav. Great stuff George and glad to read you again.
rifles (tanka) (Poetry) - 1/27/2008 6:05:06 PM
Well done! I thought this was about the Palestinians who recently broke through the border into Egypt until I read it again and saw your prologue. I suppose that speaks to the universality of this experience that you have captured in ink.
rifles (tanka) (Poetry) - 11/3/2007 11:43:04 AM
About every 4th month in Peru there's a "huelga" (strike) by store-keepers. Prices double--sometimes triple--overnight, and stores are raided--no food's available, and the stupid thing is: it just makes the store owners have to raise the prices again. It's a vicious cycle! And so it goes... Just like Katrina. --Such a waste. I look at the Califonians sharing and banding together, and my faith in humanity restores a bit--people reaching out in love and empathy rather than anger...Still, my heart goes out to the hungry. What would you do if your family was starving? I love my charities! Nice to know you're doing something. --Charlie

It still boggles my mind to think of the BILLIONS of dollars that are handed over to fuel a war or send a shuttle into space, but a poor helpless family is still left to suffer right here in our own country!
There's something very wrong with this picture!

"... That thread is Love for each because we are 'mankind' "
We should all take care of 'that thread' - treasure it and not let it rot. When many pieces of thread are entwined - it is virtually impossible to break, a lesson we should take to heart.

Hard to write, I would assume. I can't write about my Dad yet, but I would like just one more opportunity to watch a football game with him, or hear him tell a bad joke or do just about anything.
My Earthly Father (Poetry) - 9/5/2007 6:17:49 PM
I am sorry at your loss, George. Your father sounds like a complete jewel. The proud and gentle man is with his God now. Excellent. Liz
My Earthly Father (Poetry) - 9/4/2007 8:29:36 AM
Sometimes I believe that within those six months, maybe, something that happened in the outside world, that now he couldn't understand, now being afflicted...was meant to be unfound by him! It could of been a tradgedy, or, a world event, a friends loss, I could go on and on...
I believe our God is a gracious God, and he knows what our best exit is...unfortunately, sometimes, those left behind, don't, at least not at first. . .and then, oneday, it does all makes sense. . .
Your write is sad, but it has that touch of reality, that makes it live. . .
Love and Peace~
