Excellent story, Deborah! The characters and setting sprang to life for me and I loved the bits of humor you added. Bravo!

What a beautiful story.--Charlie

The Last Plane (Short Story) - 9/2/2007 3:26:33 PM
Masterfully written. (breathe, one two three four, breathe) Okay, the tears have subsided. Tremendously powerful.

The Last Plane (Short Story) - 9/1/2007 3:43:02 PM
Deborah, this story is so fantastic. Brutally truthful and packed full of raw emotion. Loved it!

The Last Plane (Short Story) - 9/1/2007 12:36:56 PM
the tears are rolling -this is superbly written, with love - and the anger that comes through, uncompromising anger at certain institutions, is warranted within the context of this specific tale - because it did feel like that, and does still - no matter what good work, and better understanding etc there is now, these feelings i had...A beautiful person said to me once, "If i were a dog, they'd have the kindness to shoot me" - too many died, and now, what has been happening for years in Africa makes me boil with anger. Lucia was in a truck traveling with two educated, native 'gentleman' across a country in Africa, and all was pleasant until they started discussing Africa, Homosexuality and HIV & AIDS. The things they said...too many things, ending with "we should round up and shoot all the gays..." She told them a few things about false morality, patriarchal village practices of sexual initiation of young girls, infidelity and lack of contraception, certain church views on condoms, about it being woman, children, and heterosexual groups with the highest rate of infection, drug company immorality etc etc etc, told them to stop the truck and shoot her because she was gay, and sickened by what they were saying. She was brave -i was angry with her when she told me, for putting herself at risk like that - fortunately the rest of the journey continued, just in silence - there should not be silence about this - there should be shouting in every city etc - in every newspaper- send this story places Deborah - please - the Gay press too. Snivels and love to you, nicky xxx

The Last Plane (Short Story) - 9/1/2007 10:52:14 AM
Deborah, wow, this story ripped me raw and made me laugh, and of course I am wiping my eyes as well. What a wonderful work, what a searing and human portrait you've cast. A writer who could create characters like this is a force of insight and compassion to be reckoned with.

Strange Breed (Short Story) - 8/18/2007 10:47:31 AM
Oh my goodness, Deborah, this one is quite disturbing. Definitely one to ponder. Excellent writing as always. Jean

Strange Breed (Short Story) - 8/16/2007 9:28:46 AM
This is a powerful story that evokes the likes of Virginia Woolfe of the previous century- and Kafka. Best wishes to the author.

Strange Breed (Short Story) - 8/16/2007 7:48:27 AM
Sounds grimly prophetic. I like the twist at the end.

Strange Breed (Short Story) - 8/16/2007 5:31:30 AM
Wow! I thought Max was a gorilla in a Zoo and she was one of the zoo keepers. Scary too, because if we are not careful, one hundred years from now (or sooner) this may just be the way of the world. No passion allowed. What a sad thought. Great story Deborah! Can't wait to read your book!

Some Get Away With Murder (Short Story) - 8/11/2007 4:06:55 PM
Never let the world forget what these evil persons did, Deborah. I have relatives who would have liked a shot at Papon, quite literally. My father first saw friends die under Vichy guns in the invasion of North Africa. An uncle told me the front line infantry quit taking prisoners after seeing the first atrocities in France. They shot them all, horrible but an expression of their revulsion. Nazi troops hid to surrender to rear echelon Americans, especially after the Battle of the Bulge. Good for you to keep the truth coming. Please see Oh my father (poetry)at my den...Jerry

Some Get Away With Murder (Short Story) - 8/1/2007 7:37:19 PM
Very sobering, Deborah. As Leo said, very powerful.

Deborah, I enjoyed this story immensely. I was completely drawn into your setting, captivated by the gentle landscape, the old man and woman, and even the animals. I loved the way you wove the song titles in and made it all come together so perfectly. A very colorful, peaceful read. Jean

Omaha Beach (Poetry) - 6/2/2009 1:11:42 AM
Most people, even in France, had an idea of what really happened. A storm ... oh well. The landscape has changed drastically and it will take 40 years to somewhat get back to what it was before. Mother Nature is angry, very angry. Thank you for your comment, Jean.

Omaha Beach (Poetry) - 5/31/2009 4:46:43 PM
How very sad, Deborah. I had no idea.

Deborah, Many times in our lifetime we've said things we regret. Your write reminds of this so well. But you have to get on with life, and try and understand others. Don't let yourself be crippled by the past. Mary

Christmas … what happened? (Poetry) - 1/24/2008 3:23:06 PM
Powerful, well-done poem, Deborah. Reminds me of one of the shorter verses of the Bible, which, without looking it up, I can't tell you where, "Jesus wept." So, even God on earth shed tears when he looked at the situation...Jerry

Christmas … what happened? (Poetry) - 1/11/2008 7:37:59 AM
Its really sad isn't it great write.

Christmas … what happened? (Poetry) - 12/24/2007 6:16:18 AM
"And in despair, I bowed my head. There is no peace on earth, I said. For hate is strong and mocks the song of peace on earth, good will to men." "Then pealed the bells more loud and deep. God is not dead, nor doth he sleep. The wrong shall fail. The right prevail with peace on earth, good will to men." Longfellow You are correct. When I look at the commercialism and mayhem of the season I wonder where the peace went. But I can still find it in perfect moments, sometimes when I least expect it. I hope you find that too. I love reading you, Deborah. Peace to you and yours, Leo

Christmas … what happened? (Poetry) - 12/21/2007 9:23:22 PM

Ohboyohboyohboy (Poetry) - 12/19/2007 7:48:30 PM
"He kisses me a ruby necklace and whispers hoops with dangles in my ears His soft caress makes diamond bracelets..." Ohboyohboyohboy, inDEED. Better hang onto HIM, if he does THAT for you! He got a twin, BTW? LOL Seriously, Deborah, this is beautiful, my new favorite of yours. (((HUGS))) and love, and Happy Chanukah, Karla.

Christmas … what happened? (Poetry) - 12/18/2007 9:31:54 PM
You sure got some more ammo for that ink pistol of yours. Set it down now. There's a good girl. Are you breathing? Breathe. And you just avoid those shopping malls! All this yelling and hollering these days over who's of what religion-- in the desert, in the Holy Land-- In American politics-- all over the place. It's just crazy, that's what. It's a good time to take stock of ourselves, like K. Burnside's recent poem-- What are the principles that guide me? What is it I believe in? And then you simply live them. You simply live them, and allow all men to do the same-- providing they don't want to kill you first! It may have been a rant, but I'm glad you wrote it. You're too right. Peace has kinda gone to pieces, hasn't it? --Charlie

Christmas … what happened? (Poetry) - 12/18/2007 8:42:48 PM
The harshness of emotion spills over to make one reflect once again on the true spirit of Christmas. Yes, peace and light, sharing, caring and giving is more what it should be like. But why stop at Christmas? Why do so many set the spriti aside the remainder of the year.....after year.....after year..... God Bless you, your family and friends and may all enjoy this everlasting birthday.... Be safe, Karen Be safe, Karen

Christmas … what happened? (Poetry) - 12/18/2007 3:33:12 PM
Wow, Deborah. I can feel a lot of emotion behind your words. What ever happened to Christmas, Peace on Earth, indeed? In any case, I hope yours will be a happy one. Jean

Christmas … what happened? (Poetry) - 12/18/2007 7:37:10 AM
Heartwrenching. We grew up, that's what happened. Sad!

Christmas … what happened? (Poetry) - 12/18/2007 6:44:45 AM
very well written. I'm convinced that so many people who want us to say "Merry Christmas" are living lives that ignore the one whose birthday we "celebrate." Larry

Christmas … what happened? (Poetry) - 12/18/2007 6:41:29 AM
You grew up, Deborah. The magic's gone...it's been commercialized out of us. A strongly penned write, I hope you find the peace you seek. (((HUGS))) and love, Karla.

Christmas … what happened? (Poetry) - 12/18/2007 5:42:17 AM
ooo...this is an angry one poem :o ...i hope warm candlelight at windows against the black or white attract some memories of warmth too, and evoke memories of peace, jog memories of kindness and some gentleness - because yes, there is much that is often too sad and ugly for words :( Strong poem Deborah - my love to you, nicky xx

Liberty, Equality, Fraternity (Poetry) - 11/5/2007 4:27:33 PM
