12 Days of Acts of Kindness (Article) - 12/27/2014 10:12:37 AM
We need to be kind and helpful year-round. Your 12 days of kindness gives us a good guide for what to do. Ron

12 Fun Facts (Article) - 3/31/2014 6:31:10 AM
Thank you, Ron. I was able to upload a picture from my phone. The original Santa picture for the 12 days of fun facts was too big for AD to accept.

12 Fun Facts (Article) - 3/31/2014 6:15:21 AM
You can post a picture for an article. After you have posted the article, Go back to your document entries in your den. Then click on the small picture you'll see among options for your article. You will be able upload a small version of any picture you have of Sir Licksalot. For many years now, I've had an idea for a memoir that I entitled, Snips, Snails, and Puppy Dog Tales, about the mischief my twin brother and I got into with friends and cousins. Mothers today would probably not let their children read it because those were Huckleberry Finn adventures that they wouldn't want their children to know about. ;-) Ron

I Love You, But I Am Not In Love With You... (Article) - 5/20/2012 2:50:11 AM
I'd say the difference between love and in love are degrees of emotion. A bit like fancying somebody, but not loving them. If you have ever been in love you will know the difference. It's inexplicable except to say you go ga-ga over the object of your desires.

I Love You, But I Am Not In Love With You... (Article) - 4/26/2012 6:18:48 PM
D.L. I have used I love you, but I'm not in love w/you...for me the romantic love just quit and you still love that person, but it is not the same. I think love is complicated because there are so many facets to it. People have their own definition anyways. Love is mysterious when you fall for someone. Perhaps we should just accept it for what it is. Loving someone for who they are.

I Love You, But I Am Not In Love With You... (Article) - 4/25/2012 9:29:44 PM
A wonderfully thought provoking article! I think we all instinctively know whether or not we are "In Love" as compared to just loving someone with all the variants that love brings. Between a Man & A Woman, it starts off with a Cupids arrow, the firelighter, and it crackles if there is that undeniable magnetism. However that is the Eros stage, and from there it must develop further, into an Agape Love! That is not to say that the Eros disappears,to the contrary, it may be a little dormant every once in a while or even for quite a while, but if Agape is present, then the spark will ignite again and again. We feel vibes from our partners, we sense their thoughts and feelings, we are bowled over by their pheromones, we are in short, turned on just by looking at them, and wish to tune in much more!! It is when a Potential cupids arrow seems to embed, but not deeply, and falls away after a time, without injecting the full measure of it's toxicity, thus Agape cannot grow from there. In other words, two ppl cannot grow, for once reason or another the mix just wasnt right, and no amount of wishing, hoping can make it. Two people either fall deeply into love or they don't. It is always wise to understand when this happens, and know to walk away, rather than try to flog a dead horse, setting oneself up for a miserable life, or time that is spent, where it could be much better spent elsewhere when we realize it just isnt happening. He's either into you, or he's not, or she's just not that much into you! Love is not complex, but peoples inability to realize what kind of love is made that way. We all need to be totally in touch with out emotions, and have a good dose of reality. Love or let go, whichever is the instinct.

The wonderful thing about hitting rock bottom (which I have done in my life in the past) is that you never forget and always go out of your way to do whatever you can to help those less fortunate...whether it is to give a toonie to the squeezy kids or volunteer at a local soup kitchen...it all helps. fee

I Love You, But I Am Not In Love With You... (Article) - 8/26/2009 12:29:25 AM
Well Carroll I am a man so I will try to answer your question from that point of view. What you wrote was wonderful and I pretty much agree with you about love is love, but I'm not the average man. That said I think "men" mean, that love has gone from a romantic love to a love like a family love without the attachment. As far as the sex goes, I don't think there are too many guys who will not find an excuss to make love to his gal. There's always that one more time. I always thought that saying "but I'm not 'in' love with you", was just some sick excuess to get out of a relationship without giving the real reason?

I Love You, But I Am Not In Love With You... (Article) - 5/3/2009 6:04:31 PM
I am no expert on this subject but I think that some people get confused as to what love really is. It isn't something that is rushed and the only way to tell the difference between love and infatuation is time. Infatuation is a strong attraction to someone that we feel like the world begins and ends with that person. After a while reality sets in and, of course, no one person can complete you. That is a tall order. Happiness is an inside job. You must love yourself before anyone can truly love you. Love is a gift you give of yourself to another. That is why when you are a whole person inside, you give love unconditionally.

I Love You, But I Am Not In Love With You... (Article) - 4/26/2009 10:31:04 AM
Perhaps you said it best when you contrasted a romantic love for someone with a platonic love. "In love" is (in my mind at least) a mutually exclusive relationship. My husband (of twenty-three years) ad I are "in love." Have been in love almost from first sight. People kept saying, "Oh, you're just infatuated. It'll wear off." Twenty-three years later the mutual exculsivity of the condition we call "being in love," is as srong as ever. I don't just love Michael, I am deeply in love with him--a love that is shared by no other. This could not be said of a platonic relationsip. You have asked a good question, D.L. I hope you find the answer you are looking for. :-)

I Love You, But I Am Not In Love With You... (Article) - 4/26/2009 8:31:22 AM
I'm no expert but I think if you are in love you literally "adore" the beloved. You want to be with them, near them. Lust is a part of it, you want to touch them, make love with them but the lust stems from the admiration you feel for them and the spiritual and emotional bond you share. I believe that you can actually "Love" someone. Care about them, have their best interest at heart but not feel those same admiration, companionship and need to touch that you do with someone you are "In love with". There are many reasons why you can love someone but not be in love with them. A past history, a commonality of a shared life, a family you share, a desire to not bring pain to them even if you are on completely different emotional plains. Many other reasons I'm sure but these are some of my thoughts on the subject.

I Love You, But I Am Not In Love With You... (Article) - 4/17/2009 2:30:41 PM
LOVE IS A MYTH... Like My Momma Said Then: High School Girl Friend (Her Momma) Broke Us Up,i.e. It's Only puppy Love... True Live Is..............Compassion... TRASK...

I Love You, But I Am Not In Love With You... (Article) - 4/17/2009 11:54:31 AM
I think this terminology refers to as you suggested infatuation...often years do deaden the desire of one person or the other in a relationship and it goes from not being able to stand being away from someone to knowing they are part of your life but not constantly on your mind. Is it lust only perhaps but often it is just the butterflies in the tummy so to speak that makes us "in love". Fee

Energy (Poetry) - 2/23/2015 4:51:35 PM
definitely a pulse of creativity

Energy (Poetry) - 2/23/2015 7:54:22 AM
Creative and innovative. We can make silicon from sand and electrical energy from silicon. I think that true entrepreneurs, those that create advancements in knowledge and uplift humanity are rare. I've been watching Shark Tank and find that a majority of entrepreneurs are imitating other entrepreneurs in the realm of conspicuous consumption that is the source of many of our problems, creating jobs of low value and equally low, pay. What the future needs are those that will risk everything to create a better world and not waste time and energy on frivolous throw away gimmicks that may bring riches to the owner but do little for our economy or the well-being of everyone. Spending my life as an energy conservation professional, what we need is many who are willing to come up with innovative ways of producing electricity without destroying the environment further. That goal is in our reach, but we must not focus on just jobs or wealth building in order to reach it. Ron

What do designer jeans and diamond rings have to do with happiness? I wonder if we have misplaced values of those things as somehow making us happy. Happiness is a process, not a thing we can hold in our hand in our hand and admire. Ron

Accepting Yourself (Poetry) - 6/18/2013 7:48:27 PM
I loved reading this wonderful poem and the way in which each verse represents such a great truth in accepting one's self. This is a Well written poem and tells it like it is. Just be you and love who God made you to be. Don't want to be anyone else, just love you for who God made you to be. I loves the verses "You no longer look near or far, you rid yourself of repentance".

Accepting Yourself (Poetry) - 6/17/2013 4:38:26 PM

Repentance in the concept of sin, is always necessary if you want to be whole with God. George

Accepting Yourself (Poetry) - 6/3/2013 6:00:31 AM
Loving oneself the way we are is the first step to being happy and healthy. On the other hand, if we recognize that we are too fat, or our eating habits make us anorexic, then we should be conscious enough of ourselves to self correct. So many make excuses for their troubles when they cause them by personal abuse like taking drugs, eating too much or other unhealthy practices trying to mask real feelings with symptom relievers. Ron

Criticism (Poetry) - 5/7/2013 8:48:03 AM
An intelligent statement that all readers should take to heart. Too often readers believe the quality of another's thoughts is dependent on whether they reflect their own narrow point of view. Your integrity is intact, DL Carroll, and so is your writing.

You are so right!! Most seem blind to what really matters in life, love and compassion being the most important. I loved this write!! This poem reminds me of one I wrote a few years ago. It was written for a friend. She told me of her Christmas Miracle" and I had to write about it. I will share it with you below; Christmas Miracle I look at her in gentle sleep Again the tears begin to seep Why has life become so cruel To hurt such a special jewel Christmas is a time of joy Not for me without employ A simple gift I could not buy For money is in short supply Holding back my sobs of pain Wiping tears I've shed in vain I move towards her sleeping form Flooded with a love so warm I lay beside her, hugging tight In tearful sleep into the night Dreading of the coming morn How her tender heart will mourn I wake to soft kiss on my cheek As tears again my visage streak A look of question paints her face Holding me in tight embrace “Don’t be sad, it’s Christmas Day!!” “I have your gift just by the way” To her dresser she makes her way I watch and know not what to say She brings an envelope beautifully tied With ribbon bright and a bow so wide With smiling face she places it near Then wipes my cheek of one last tear With shaking hands I pull the bow Her smile so radiant begins to glow A card is pulled from binding sheath With Christmas tree and holly wreath Hand painted pictures of her design Adorned with two hearts intertwined “This is you and that one is me” It’s getting harder for me to see With blurred vision it’s opened wide She takes my hand and sits beside “I’ll read it for you if that’s OK” Yes I nod, words held at bay “To my mom, my best friend” “Christmas hugs to you I send” “You are my star upon the tree” “You fill every day with glee” “Love you give me keeps me warm” “Your arms enfold me, safe from harm” “I thank God each and every day” “That He sent you to guide my way” So please let me calm your fear” “I say this from a heart sincere” “There is no need for moneys spent” “You are by far my greatest present!!” I hug her tight as tears flow free A Christmas miracle just for me And vow to treat her in every way As special as her gift this day Brian Beaudry

Moments Stolen (Poetry) - 5/16/2009 5:34:44 PM
I never experienced the kind of stolen moments you write of here--having married my first love 23 years ago. I can only imagine the hurt of betrayal and disappointment that you write of here but I can sense the heartbreak.

Moments Stolen (Poetry) - 5/15/2009 2:20:58 PM

Autumn Clarity (Poetry) - 11/21/2008 12:13:29 PM
Autumn is one of my favorite topics and it never ceases to amaze me how we all seem to have the same concepts of its symbolism, bravo! You obviously have the potential to write very simply without losing the interest of the audience...

Timing (Poetry) - 11/21/2008 12:12:33 PM
I respect that you took on 'time' here as a topic, although I found teh rhyming took a tad away from the potential depth of this piece, I liked how you made it contemporary.

The power of understanding is such a vital part of our livelihoods.I know a lot of people who are very closed minded and refuse to be open-minded about anything.Understanding a person can make him or her feel like there is a listening ear and heart out there in this world.I enjoy reading this poem, take care Edwin

Trust (Poetry) - 7/18/2008 5:36:34 PM
Hello D.L. Carroll, Ouch! That hurt! I'm so blessed with this lovely poem and realize I've been giving my fiance a hard time, but after reading this, I see how much he deserves my 100% trust. Thanks for waking me up! Cynthia

Trust (Poetry) - 7/18/2008 3:30:18 PM
Trust in a relationship is a trait we should look for in the person we may want to marry. If someone has slept around before marriage it may be a habit he finds hard to stop leading to the divorce court eventually.

Trust (Poetry) - 7/18/2008 3:01:05 PM
You are so right with this one, all too often human interaction is determined by our past experiences and that includes trust. If we have a bad experience in trust than we tend to be doubtful for a long time to come or even have to let our lovers prove themselves before we will trust again. hugs Fee

Trust (Poetry) - 7/18/2008 12:59:12 PM
Trust, is what I need to see in people. Once hurt, always hurt.

Pain or Gain (Poetry) - 6/13/2008 12:14:36 PM
Love is a gamble no matter how we look at it but then again so is getting up each morning and facing the world. We could stay in bed but eventually our minds and bodies would stagnate and starve. So when love comes along feast...worry about the indigestion later. hugs Fee

Pain or Gain (Poetry) - 6/12/2008 5:09:42 AM

Change (Poetry) - 5/24/2008 9:29:26 AM
We are different that is for sure and change means diffent things to the different people. Those can accept change barely notice things are different but go on to a new a better place to be better people.

Forgiveness (Poetry) - 5/16/2008 5:47:20 AM
Refusing to forgive put a great strain on you and you can't live peacefully cause you are not living according to God's words. He asked us to forgive our enemies and love one another. It is as it should be to do that.

Determination (Poetry) - 5/16/2008 5:44:40 AM
Determination can stay with us and get us on our way. The secret is to take that first step in the right direction. We should be determined to do our best without regrets. Many goals are out there for us to achieve, determine them.

Purpose (Poetry) - 5/9/2008 9:53:01 AM
A road not taken is a road lost. Nothing ventured, nothing gained is a good thing to think about. This poem says all and gives good advice too. Never give up, cause it is never too late.

Happiness (Poetry) - 5/9/2008 9:51:13 AM
