D. A. Welch's Flashback is a romantic adventure set on the modern South Carolina coast. With its heroes cut from chiseled muscle and its liberated damsels in distress, Flashback probably will most appeal to women readers. The author's first novel is professionally presented in a beautiful cover enclosing a straightforward, mature compositional style. Her apt descriptions of the weather and terrain of the coastline with its barrier islands open most of the chapters, and her characters are brimming with Southern charm. Many new authors fall overboard trying to wow their readers with immature utilizations of various conceits, but Ms. Welch thankfully has stuck with the basics and written what she knows. Flashback will take you to The Low Country and leave you blowing in the sea breezes.
