From the fine samples presented here at AuthorsDen, THE WRITE HOUSE is a book that is simplistic in style and yet deep, wise, and very relevant in its poetic substance. A pleasure to read and learn more about Edwin Hurdle's work.

You are correct Edwin - seeing your own book in your hand for the first time is amazing. Living in New York must be interesting - I visited your city many years ago for a weekend and found it fascinating but so large it was a tad overwhelming for a small town guy like me. All the best. What a sweet poem to write about a person that you truly love. I hope this loved one had a chance to read it.
I know I enjoyed reading it very much. If my husband would write a poem like this one, I would truly appreciate it, but for some reason he just doesn't write stories or poems. I guess it is because he thinks he can't.

Deodorant (Poetry) - 11/21/2009 3:28:37 PM
I have often asked myself, Edwin, when I think the seminal moment of twentieth century man's moral demise was -- and certainly our federal government's intervention into the day to day moral issues of the family unit most assuredly fit the bill -- sadly we have evolved from that moment into the inhumane uncaring, "plastic personalities" we are today as a society -- your poem draws our attention to the fact that we reek with the B.O. of the earth's dispassionate residents -- peace and love my friend -- Jon Michael

Lethal Weapon (Poetry) - 11/13/2009 1:04:22 PM
As I read this, I recalled the bible verse, Ephesians 6:4, "Provoke not your children to wrath." We hear so often to "Honor our parents" but parents have mandates as well, to not treat their children in ways that will let anger build in them. It's good you're addressing your feelings about your father. I think it's one of the journeys many men must take.

Ice cold parents, indifferent ones, bad example ones, aren't the best for a child to lean when growing up, because that child will grow like a n emotional pretzel without beginning and without end.
What you need is a real friend, one that can reach your life keyboard and that will press that DELETE key that will obliterate everything bad in the past and leave only good memories for you to become a happy camper.

There is no need for anyone to follow in another's foot steps. My grandfather was in prison twice in two separate states. His son, my father was a Chief of Police in our town when I grew up. My father and grandfather spoke to one another, but father like son, never.

Edwin, for a moment I thought we had the same father. I know what you are talking about as we were so afraid growing up in our house, only for Mom, who by the way was an Angel I don't think any of us could have survived. I am glad you shared with us. Take care and none of us grew up to take on any of our father's ways.

Edwin,
I am also blessed, lucky and fortunate. I've strived all my life not to take anything for granted. I thank God every morning that I am 'allowed' to wake up, get up and walk and talk. So many didn't have that privilege. I am forever thankful for all my blessings. When I feel down and out I look around me and there's always someone worse than I am. I am blessed to be able to go to Jesus, to have Him as my Saviour. Bless you my friend, for writing this.
Blessings,
