Good reason to keep the lights off.
I've from teen years on, believed for myself that it is wise to keep it covered if it isn't pretty. I call this getting "Older"--"getting loose on the bone." Enjoyed the poem.

The cruelty of life and age are so well expressed within your poem...it shows the depth of reflection one encounters when contemplating age...
