School Stinks! (Article) - 5/31/2003 4:02:33 PM
I really liked the article "School Stinks," although I did not totally agree with it. My mom started homeschooling me in the 6th grade, and has been for the past 2 years since. Thankfully, this is the last year I will have to endure being homeschooled. I am sure that many people have found that homeschooling is the best method for them, but I have hated it since day 1. I had no say in the matter, and deeply regret that I missed 3 years in a public middle school. I am overjoyed to be attending a regular high school in September. I think that I have gotten a lot out of homeschooling, although I feel that I would have gotten just as much from my local middle school, and possibly more. Then there is the lack of social contact. The best part about school for me was being able to hang out with friends during breaks, and homeschooling has taken me away from that. Talking with your friends between classes also gives one a chance to calm down and have fun, and the next class isn't so hard if you've been given a chance to catch up with your pals. I would definately not recommend homeschooling. It sounds great, but it's really like going to school without any of the fun aspects. I love the feeling of structure as I'm learning, and for the past 3 years my school experience has had almost no structure at all. I have attended private school, public school, and endured being homeschooled. The best experience I had was in a public school, where I was able to excel in whatever I felt like, and attend advanced courses if I was able to get that far. I realize that many public schools don't have adequate supplies, but I think that as long as a school has enough programs, you can go as far as you want to. However, not all students (or parents) feel this way, and I think that the decision should be left up to the individual.

i think homeschooling is better; the kids are less apt to stay out of trouble, and you always know where they are at all times! i used to frown on it, but then, as i see the downfall of education in our country, i think it's better! so i am now a supporter of homeschooling! informative write! love, your friend, karen lynn. (((HUGS))) :)
