Dear Tori...I'm glad your pic and name popped up when I came on this evening. I'm impressed with what I've read. Years ago I had a brush with the law. I knew after 2 days that jail was nowhere I wanted to be and that it was up to no one but me to find the way. I wasn't lucky my life turned out as well as it has. Along with my two guardian angels, Inspration and Perspiration, I overcame a lot of adversity...mostly of my own making. You're right about Tommy...he is not repentant and never will be. However, he is the product of a society who does not recognize 'battered men' as a concern. His life probably started out as that of being a battered child, then a battered adolescent, who then became a battering adult filled with uncontrollable hate and rage. Society needs only to look at the penal system to know how miserably they've failed in protecting children and preventing the Tommys of the world from happening. Instead, we pay lip service to the problems. I could go on and on but I'd probably only bore you.
Good luck with all you do.
Ron
Finally Free (Poetry) - 9/13/2009 3:20:02 PM
A Great Poem! Unfortunately most prisoners re-commit their crimes. That is unless they are in a Christian program. Our success in prison ministry is about 80% success rate IF they stay with the program.
Thanks for sharing!

Well done! A chilling reminder of what can happen to us innocent victims. I work in the prison ministry and yes, I hear the reasons why. Most say it is because of drugs. Yes, large amounts of beer and whiskey included. They tell me they wake up the next day is a cell and don't understand why themselves. The devil is in the drug? Unfortunately they are right.
Take care,
John Michael

Heart wrenching and very sad for I know these depictions are real and true. Painfully true, "...THE REAL CRIME IS EACH OF US,..."
Take care,

I so hate to see young people on drugs. Ruins their lives and they don't seem to get that it does. Why do they think they have to be with the in crowd. Some I know went to prison only to come out renewed. Is this God's way of bringing them to him? Don't really know but so many lost lives ended by overdoses and all. You made it so real here on this poem. lives going down the drain per se. Hurting their families and loved ones.

Powerful writing. You make the reader think about those things which many of us fail to see.

a cold and dark write, yet one that gives rise to a life that most never care to think about.

Someone a while back told me that there were no orphans in a Navajo village, but our society has many, even if the absent parents are still alive, but that's no excuse for each of us to forget they also belong to us, one way or the other. Bless you! Jasmin Horst

I did like the style of your writing article.
I once wanted a degree in Criminal Justice but my teacher had a Ph D and she told me that I was a writer. I think she was from England.

!Thus that darkness, has a light turned on, which turns away the darkness.
Clever, brilliant allegory.
One can feel the abandonment of freedom.
I could write a thesis here, but I'll save you the pain..lol

Indeed, one can become attached to fear, so much so, that it becomes an unwanted but needed friend.
Ignore the likes and they die of starvation... Top notch..
