Return Trip to South Africa from England (Short Story) - 11/13/2005 9:27:52 AM
I love your sense of humour, Susan! Lol! Such zest for life. Home is always home! Aah, Table Mountain! I lived in an apartment in Claremont which had such an amazung view of the mountain! On Sundays I always used to take my breakfast at the balcony and enjoy the view - and in the evenings I would enjoy a braai and a glass of Southern Comfort while watching the sun set. Beautiful!!! I miss that awfully!!
God bless, Susan!

Oh how well I know that feeling Susan. I don't know why and how, but South Africa seems to that to people. I always get that feeling everytime I visit again - having lived there for 6 years and in Botwswana for 4.

Terrible what has happened, but your writing thrills me, Susan. I can't help it!! You have a perfect sense of what makes a story or a scene come to life. You have a wonderful sense of humor. You have a great eye for details, and always seem to choose exactly the right ones. You don't waste words, nor are you stingy with them. As I have said before, your writing shows that you are disciplined and have great respect for language. Your love of people and of Africa s i n g.
I can't say enough good things about you and your writing.

Rhodesia will live on in my memory.
It seems to be a fact of life that the majority of Of African counties have reverted to anarchy on taking "Home Rule".
I remember leaving Uganda, across the Border when Idi took over.
This week, we cancelled the Cricket test because of the situation in "Rhodesia"

I lived in Rhodesia from 1973-1975 with a year in Johannesburg RSA in 1974 but in summer of 74 we left Johannesburg and lived at Llewellin Barracks, outside of Bulawayo. My dear late son, Georgie is buried there. He was born there on March 31, 1975 and died there and is buried there Bulawayo Cemetary in July of 1975. I have fond memories of Rhodesia. It will never be Zimabawe to me.
Ian Smith was a much admired man.
Peace, Karissa

are these creeps so damn desperate that they'll attack babies??? what they need to do with these creeps is castrate them and rip off their hands, so they can't hold anything to use in place of their useless members
i had a cop tell me once that i was cruel, because i think of tortures we could use on creeps like this

Another great article filled with your first-hand insights of African politics. It is an enormous tragedy that most of Africa has been unable to rise above thelevel of ruthless dictatorial tyranny and tribal warfare. It does not bode well for that continent's future.

Wistful Ache for Africa (Poetry) - 9/13/2007 10:51:17 AM
What a wonderful spokesperson Africa has in you !! It is beyond great to be treated to visions of The Beauty in all her splendor.
So many publications and other sources of information stress problems
and disasters. Need to be aware {DO something, if possible}, but
sometimes the wonder gets lost. Gorgeous landscape, fantabulous wildlife, and wonderful people!! Thank you, thank you, dear friend, for painting these poetic pictures. Making us see, hear, smell, feel. . .what a gift you have! What discipline, what dedication!
There aren't enough superlatives to express my admiration and appreciation. Love always, and Then, Phyllis

Cape Malay Quarter (Poetry) - 6/23/2007 9:21:18 AM
Africa is naturally beautiful continent. But poverty is killing that beauty. It is paradoxically very rich and very poor at the same time.
Thank you for sharing this beauty. The picture of Nelson Mandella is excellent match for this write. He is a legend and an African Hero.
Thank you.

Oh they are beautiful aren't they. I have one next door to me in the neighbors yard that is heavenly. They grow well all over the Phoenix area and the fragrance when they are all in bloom is something else. Same with citrus blossoms.
You've captured it beautifully...

spend most of my time in the city... but relate to the ache you describe - the dark continent certainly has a magic, if not a somewhat peculiar, hold over us. hope you and family are okay (still in the cape?) - it's been so long (too long).
