"A Wonderful Book for Uplifting the Spirit with Poetic Verses"
Healing Through Poetry by Mary Ann Duhart, is an excellent book of poetic verses to read and enjoy. Beginning with the enlightening words of Psalm107:20, which states: “He sent His word and healed them and delivered them from their destruction,” Duhart dynamic style of poetic elaboration through the use of symbolic language truly is a voice for sending out the word to touch the hearts and souls of many.
Her mixture of free form and acrostic style of poetic structures is an excellent medium of enlightening readers with her uplifting words. For example, the poem “Can You Stop,” is certainly an expressive combination of stanzas written in quatrain format and mixed with a positive theme of helping others. Stopping for a minute and rendering assistance to one in need of help is definitely a task for all “Good Samaritans.” Her expressions show the quality of her life and the goodness of her heart in this poem.
The poem, “A Mother’s Cry,” is an indication of the tears she has shed for her family members and friends. Once she has a family bond with a person, her prayers are always there, and her tears are a part of that process to strengthen the bond, especially for her children. “A Mother’s Cry” is for all mothers to read, and fathers too because it impacts the entire family. This piece is linked with another of her poems, “Where Is the Man?” Certainly, the man plays a vital and critical role in the family, especially when it comes to setting the example and mentoring children for advancement. Actually, in today’s society, too many are missing from the home.
This book is packed with words of wisdom and understanding for all to enjoy. Naturally, the theme is spiritual in nature, and crosses the spectrum of religious literature based on her faith. The words are pleasing to the soul and instill hope in the reader for a better day which is yet to come. Certainly, this is a must read, especially for those with questionable faith. The lessons from this book of poetry is invigorating and will pick the souls up from the dust, allows one to shake of the remnants, and move forward in faith towards a greater calling.
The reviewer, Joseph S. Spence, Sr., is a poet and author of various books and articles, is most recent is Trilogy Moments for the Mind, Body and Soul.

Fulfilling Your Dream (Article) - 1/19/2009 8:58:14 AM
Often we see a problem in another person and so we concentrate on helping that person. Howewer I have come to realize that all trials are first and foremost about me.Somewhere within my heart or spirit God is chastening me. In other words what you see in the other person is actaully your own image relflected back at you. This is a very profound article Mary but as you realize your task is to hold firm: trust in God;believe without a doubt that He will work things out in His own Time.
Thank you so much dear friend for your comment on my article
Fulfilling Your Dream (Article) - 1/15/2009 11:39:44 AM
Hello Mary, this is such a wonderful testimony. I like the way this testimony comes across. I also went back to poetry after the passing of my mother. That's my healing process also, and it's still a part of my life and is working on a daily basis. The Book of 2nd Thessalonians 2:17 states that we should comfort our hearts, and say that which is good for others to hear. Just like you, I have found poetry to be such a source of saying inspirational words which bring about healing through our marvelous works.
Take care, keep writing, and God bless always!

No Pity-Party Allowed (Poetry) - 1/21/2009 12:17:21 PM
"Time to change to a brand new tune." I can definitely hear that and it seem an even greater saying with the turn in history that were witnessing as we speak. I think that all people of the U.S.A will be be coming to grips with the no pity party term because we're definitely in a hot mess right now but talk about it all day and criticizing the steps forward isn't going to get us to the promise land. I we as African Americans have been shown by Obama that we can't take this world likely and that nothing is given. Except for our God given purposes and talents. It's ultimately going to be our faith and dedication to get down to business. That is going to make us a better people, race, nation and country all together. Well I ain't gone preach anymore but I did want to say that your piece is ghetto fabulous! Take Care Sista.
