Congratulations on your debut as a published author. You have a voice to share with the world... I am glad you are going to be able to let people into the world of a person with disabilities to let them know that we are just as capable if given a fair chance. Again, congratulations and much success to you.

What a glorious expression of what the grace of God and the determination of the human spirit that hears His voice can do. May this book touch millions and may it be in the hands of every person that needs this to give them the much needed breath of strength they need to push on! What a joy! What a treasure! Congratulations! Pastor Cecile Jo Suire

Karen: Congratulations on your book collaboration! It is very exciting being published, isn't it? And for those people who think that self-publishing or POD publishing won't go far, I have this message: My first POD (by Trafford Publishing) novel Whale Song came out in 2003, my second Divine Intervention in 2004 and my third The River in 2005. Since then, Whale Song has been picked up by a traditional publisher (possibly because of my huge belief in my novel and because I had a proven track record of sales) and a movie treatment and screenplay for Whale Song are now in the hands of an executive producer who requested it after reading my SELF-PUBLISHED book. And if they decide not to take it, my new publisher has 4 agents (one from Hollywood) who are just waiting! So my message to all self-published, POD, independent authors and all aspiring authors is to do whatever it takes to get noticed and published. And never, EVER give up! It doesn't matter whether you authored or co-authored the book, Karen. YOU are a published author! Take pride in that and never look at it as a small accomplishment. Many people are too afraid to take the risk and step onto the ledge. You jumped off. :) Your 'mystery' friend in Canada, Cheryl Kaye Tardif www.cherylktardif.com http://cherylktardif.blogspot.com

Hi Karen Congratulations! That's wonderful news. I really like the cover of the book, they are colours I lean towards often. You must be feeling on top of the world, as you well should and I hope the book is a great success. I'll be in the USA in September in New York and then San Francisco on my way home from a whirlwind trip taking in a little bit of Bangkok, a bit bigger bit of London, a lot of Ireland and then a few days in New York and a couple in San Francisco. So I will be close by wooooooo. Mind you I don't have a clue where Texas is anymore than I have a clue where New York or San Francisco are. I must do a bit of navigating around the world between now and 21st August when I fly out :) I might get lost otherwise lol. I often think how strange it is that people know nothing much at all about Australia and yet, if I am honest, I know bugga all about the world outside of Australia. However I will be getting a bit more of an idea soon :) About time no doubt lol. Take care and keep writing up a storm. I'm having a bit of a layoff time - the news about glaucoma knocked my socks off and it's taking me a while to get used to less vision and the restrictions I now have to live with. I decided I had best go overseas soon because I have no idea where this is going to take me .. prognosis is 'you could go blind'. That's life and acceptance is the key I think. I, like you, may be handicapped, but I am alive and I live. xxxxxxxxx your friend in Oz, Vena

A Christmas Angel Writes ... (Short Story) - 12/1/2009 7:03:33 AM
Karen, you know that I am Jewish, yet I, along with my family, and by this I mean my parent's family then my family have always loved Christmas and the Christmas season. No, we did not nor do we now pray to Jesus Christ, but do know that it is His time and love to see Nativity scenes and the colors of the season. I agree that this should be a time for "Goodwill to all mankind." Though I am Jewish, I always look forward to Christmas eve because on this evening I attend the Methodist church along with my girlfriend for the service and love the sounds and, yes, do come away feeling refreshed and somehow better than before I entered. It bothers me, a lot, when the joy and scenes of the season are stifled by those that feel there should be no such public display. Your friend in Southern California; Mark

Why Do I Write? Because I Want To! (Article) - 8/24/2009 3:25:57 PM
Karen, Great write with so much feeling. I didn't know Karla had those feelings, she shouldn't, she's a wonderful writer. And so are you. I love reading your stories, but plain fact, is I just don't always have the time to read stories or articles. I think that's why most people read poetry..time. Perhaps a bit shallow, I love Authorsden, and you'll always be the most special person, because you were the first to rate my work back in 2007 when I wrote "The Attack" And writing because you "want to" is the best reason. As you once told me, keep the pen movin and groovin'!

Why Do I Write? Because I Want To! (Article) - 7/17/2009 4:54:44 AM
Karen, as you well know, writing is therapuetical... at least it is for me. I have always been better at expressing my thoughts on paper rather than verbally. And when these thougts take story form, it's fun. And I've always hated the question, "why do you write?" It doesn't have one answer - it has a million answers. I guess the best I can say is that I write because it 'helps'.

Why Do I Write? Because I Want To! (Article) - 6/28/2009 9:33:53 AM
KAREN LYNN - FIRSTLY - let me sincerely apologize - why? - in the 6 years I have been here, and all the reviews you have posted on my STUFF - I ust realized that I don't remember ever even VISITING your site! This fact is not due to callousness, but rather to STUPIDITY on my part, and the standard EXCUSE of just being TOO BUSY! MEA CULPA! SECONDLY - Writing is THERAPEUTIC - it helps in many ways, not least of which is to help to organize one's THOUGHTS! Let's face it - each and every human being that is NOT a ROBOT has Feelings and Emotions - some UP, Postive, and Joyful - others DOWN, Negative, and Sorrowful - getting these emotions OUT of the head and ONTO paper or plastic (keyboard entries) - just like doing a TAPE DUMP or a TRASH EMPTYING - FREES UP SPACE in Memory for new STUFF to be received, or UPLOADED ... Make sense? THIRDLY - I believe that almost everyone has good STORIES to tell - and let's face it - whether the genre is called: Poem, Story, Article, Blog, Saga, Tale, Epic, or any other non-descriptive description, like - STUFF ... we all enjoy SHARING! Mankind, and WO-mankind - ALL - ultimately go back to the same DNA, or GENES, or CHROMOSONES - good ole ADAM N' EVE! Ergo, we are GREGARIOUS! We are SOCIAL Ani-MULES! FOURTHLY - While some have been Gifted with great: Spelling, Grammar, Punctuation, Vocabulary, and other Language Skills - others were NOT so Gifted. But, they still have good STORIES to tell - so they should still TELL them! Someone else can do the 'gut-work' of Refining, or Editing - ain't that what EDITORS are really for? Reminds me of the old 'saw' - "Them that can't DO ... TEACH!" FIFTHLY - In all due conscience, I must admit that I am one of the ones that tend to be very VERBOSE! Second MEA CULPA! Just ask Matlack! Some like it - some don't - as they used to say in the Russian Army - "TOUGHGIE SHITSKI !!!" To attempt to paraphrase Abe Lincoln - "You can please SOME of the people SOME of of the time - and you can please ALL of the people SOME of the time - but you can't please ALL of the people ALL of the time!" SIXTHLY - Regarding REVIEWS - my experience here, as well as several other previous sites, is that MORE people tend to read POEMS, rather than other 'STUFF' - simply because they are usually SHORTER and take up less TIME! Now, if anyone would like to CHALLENGE this statement, be my guest - I WOULD CHALLENGE THEM TO FIND - GO AND READ - and then WRITE A REPORT ON - "THE RHYME OF THE ANCIENT MARINER' ... "Water, water everywhere but not a drop to drink!' and "THE CHARGE OF THE LIGHT BRIGADE" - "... all into the Valley of Death rode the Six Hundred ..." SO - FA-GET-A-BOUT-IT ... whoever reads whatever, and takes time to comment however on whatever ... is ultimately a very NICE PERSON - for whichever reason we should all be happily-ever-after indubitably GRATEFUL ... Kind-a sort-a like-a ... the Opposite of ... "The Grateful Dead!" SEVENTHLY - and FINALLY - yet another MEA MAXIMA CULPA is needed here - what started out as an intended lil 'PEP-TALK' MUSHROOMED into an Article - ERGO - all of this STUFF herein presented, is now being copied and pasted - and will shortly be posted on my 'HOGWASH CHANNEL' ... see STUFF !!! PAL = Peace - Love - Abundance ... yer Fiend (r omitted on purpose) - Tom Kat.

I had never read this and I hope that you are feeling good about writing now. It is not so bad to give up one thing to focus on another, it can also be seen as an opportunity to spend more time and energy improving in an activity that we have chosen. Here on this site, I read poetry (almost exclusively), because that's the only thing I publish online. But I know that I read some of your stories in the past. I hope that you keep writing. Axilea

Taking A Break... (Article) - 5/10/2009 10:54:41 AM
Hello Karen, just stopping by to let you know I am one of the guilty ones who don't always leave comments on posts I read..it isn't because I don't appreciate the post, it is that sometimes you mean to leave something and than something happens and you put it off until later. I have you on my favorite authors list and I know when you do take the time to post something, but my intentions are really truthful when I say that I understand. I have had a blog for almost 4 years now, and sometimes I do not even get on comment on whatever I post..but the blog site has a spot called "viewers" and it keeps a running total of how many people stop by and read, but don't comment, and somethimes that used to really bother me, but than I realized that they were coming back again and again, according to the viewer count, but just not commenting. So, I just figured that, hey, they were interested in what I had to say each day, but didn't want to comment, but would be back the next day. I post because I like the venue to express what is on my mind, or to get something off my mind, like venting about something. I guess that is why I am guilty of looking at peoples posts, sometimes commenting if I have the time, or plan to come back later..I think from now on I will try and find a thumbs up icon, or a smiley face, to at least let someone know I was there and did like what I read. Hope you will forgive me. Please don't think about stepping back for a while, or as I once did with my blog, I was so hurt I shut it down, and the only one it hurt was me, because I loved blogging so much. So now I always post for me first, than hope others will enjoy it also, and if no one comes, I still did it for myself. Barbara

I Am Getting Published!! :) (Article) - 4/25/2009 4:09:10 AM

How Much More Can I Stand??? Please Keep Me In Prayer! :( (Article) - 4/23/2009 2:12:43 PM
Hi Karen, I realize this is a late reply and I wish I'd seen this at the time, but I'm seeing it now, and it really strikes a chord within me. I've often felt the way you express yourself here, more times than I care to count. I have no doubt I will again sometime in the future.. If I could just offer some encouragement for you today, as I know that some or many of the issues here written about, still are a concern to you. God does not give us what we cannot handle, yes this is most true. Thing is, we as Humans, think we can only handle a certain amount, and then it's enough..God see's us so differently, he see's us through our hearts, and through the eye's of his Son Jesus who endured so much for us, who intercedes for us daily. When we think we have had enough, and feel like we are at the end of it all, more strength, more love, more of everything is alloted to us..You're still here, still writing, n beautiful writing at that!! So when you look back at where you've been, what you've been through, it truly is amazing, and you can see where he has been Holding you up during those trying and traumatic times. It's like fastracking our lives, and I often am almost amused at some things myself. It feels so...surreal, looking back down the track, and I think to myself " Did I go through that"? Seriously!! Have No idea how" Then I remember promises, and believe even more. That's how God works, isn't he wonderful?? I think so and I know you do too, you precious Lady, precious friend. Love yah muchly.. My Hubby has COPD, related to Abestos inhalation off the work sites yrs ago, He is suffering so much all the time, and I wonder how he gets through each day..He amazes me, and inspires..Oh Mate, Think I should write about it.. BIG HUGZZZZZ Your Friend in Aussie Ch'erie xxxx

At least we have their music and a few precious videos to bring it all back a little. Karen, I love you for this one. Thank you, Darlin', for being in my tracker fan club too! You are beautiful, and a wonderful expository writer. Don't ever let it get you down, 'cause God notices all of the good writing and works you do, and well bless you in due. Rockie "Starman" Coppolella

Hi Karen, I know the feeling. Karen, I know your heart is in writing about those with handicaps. Have you tried doing this without using the letterform? Try showing your characters in a story form with a plot, a beginning, middle, and end. Bring them to life and give them speaking parts. This is just a suggestion. Maybe you have done this. Let me know, if you have. Hugs, Pat

Come back!! Come back!! Believe me I know how you feel, Karen, Luv. A time or two I have posted other types of work under Poetry because it is the only category that generates much traffic. Think it is partly because it is hard to read from a screen for long periods. With my eyes, I have to empathize. Wish it wasn't so expensive and time-consuming to print everything out. Most writers are probably like me, in that paper piles to the point where avalanches threaten. But we need to support each other!! I am here and now resolving to read more of the longer works that are posted at the Den. Especially Karen Vidra's!! I apologize for having been neglectful. I should know better. Does hurt when your work is ignored!! I hope everyone who reads this will vow to take more time to read all types of writing. Whenever possible, buy books by authors they admire. ((((((Love ya!))))) Feelin' Stressed... (Poetry) - 12/1/2009 6:47:36 AM
Karen my Sweet, I can't believe I didn't comment on this before; I'm sure I read it, but I was probably too tired that day. Anyway--you are certainly a poet! This is a GOOD poem. In my estimation, writing in a way that gives glimpses into your soul is effective. You have a fine knack for writing poetry, if this poem is the test. I hope things are going better. My Bill was on disability, but had to apply 3 times. (it wasn't from that fictional fall, btw, but from a series of genuine falls over many years) The third time, a court date was set, but the judge ruled before we even had to appear and fortunately, before our money had run out. It was sure a close one! I would be pleased to see you write more poems, but if stories are your genre, just keep on keeping on. You have a Friend in Jesus. Love ya, Connie

I do not think your poetry "sucks" at all. You always wrote good poetry before. If you think it could be better try a different style. GOD BLESS Tony

why should i pray?? (thanks, michael newdow, for destroying my faith!) (Poetry) - 9/10/2009 3:43:20 PM
What do you get by not praying? It's like playing an instrument. You may not be in tune at first but you will strike a cord with someone. It is life as you say in the tornado. Strike a note with God. It's the only way. Blessings,

Dear Karen Lynn, I am impresed not only by the wonderful poem, but also by the depth of its meaning. In life we do not need any burden, be it by words or by intentions. Only love can uplift us. Brava, Love Emile

Hi Karen, I like haiku. Iam not a poet, but sometimes my thoughts come out like haiku. I tend to call it free verse. And since I too live in Texas, I sympathize.

YOU EXPRESSED YOURSELF WELL...AND BECAUSE WE ALL, AT ONE TIME OR ANOTHER, HAVE 'BEEN THERE' - I CAN RELATE. I SEE FROM READING YOUR BIO THAT YOU HAVE THE 'ANTIDOTE' AND I KNOW BY NOW, 'HE' HAS STEPPED IN AND RENEWED AND STRENGTHENED YOU. YOU MAY NOT WANT TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE 'GIFT' OF POETRY THAT HE HAS PLACED IN YOU BUT I ACKNOWLEDGE IT AND I THANK YOU FOR SHARING IT IN THIS WELL WRITTEN 'STORY'. THIS PIECE IS FILLED WITH THE PHRASES, IMAGERY, RHYME AND RHYTHM THAT FLOW TOGETHER SO SMOOTHLY AND SUPPORTS YOUR THEME SOLIDLY. IT WAS DEFINITELY ENJOYED. GOD BLESS.
