Sheriff Jesse took Tom and the family over to the District Attorneys' office to see what they could do about all this. The DA, Dawson was his name and Jesse was not exactly friends but they got along. Dawson was eager to hear what had went on out at Tom’s place the town was already talking about it you can imagine what some of their small minds had invented.
Faye’s Uncle Jesse started out with what he had found out about Ron from years ago, Faye almost fainted; she did not know anything about this. Dawson immediately sent a fax to the town where this had happened. He needed to find out the disposition of the file. She also found out that he had come from Knoxboro, TN about four hours from there. When he moved her off to Asheboro when they first married she thought that was his hometown and he never told her any different, he let her believe it. Hearing all of this made her feel so gullible.
Dawson took each of their statements in a room with just him and a stenographer so they would not hear what the other said especially this tight knit family, they stuck together. First was Faye since she came back home with this abuse problem. He needed to hear, in her own words, what had caused all of these problems since she left her husband.
Faye said, “The first few months were great and things seemed to be going so good, then I got pregnant with Lee, who is three and a half now he just turned so brusque after I was pregnant. He kept having sex until I started getting big, then he left me alone completely other than to wait on him hand and foot.” She stopped a couple of minutes.
When she continued, she said, “When Lee was only two months old Ron brutally raped me and I was pregnant again with Chad, who is now almost two and a half. There is only eleven months between the two boys’ ages.” She went on to tell him, “he beat me for no reason other than she did not have a cold beer waiting on him when he got home from work. I still have bruises on my stomach and my back where I had to lay over the boys when he was going to beat up on them with a leather strop.” “ I tried so hard to make things work, I tried to like his friends and their girlfriends but all they wanted was to eat our food and drink his beer, and I sure better have it for them even if they had nothing to eat. All the money I had was the few dollars he gave me when he was paid; he supposedly was paying the bills and taking care of everything. I did not know anything about the bank account, only my name was on the checks.”
When Dawson got through with Faye he had her to go to the ER and tell them she needs x-ray her and the boys and take pictures of all bruises no matter how minor that Ron had put on her or the boys.
