Rum

.
The sofa's upholstery was speckled in blood, no doubt the blood of one of the house's previous tenants, who had left the furniture after moving out. Quality furniture, that. All hardwood, and not third division wood. Really high quality wood. The sort of wood you'd want all of your furniture made out of. Anyway, this is not about the texture of the non-couch furniture, but in fact the upholstery of the couch. The blood was likely not type AB. The odds were too good against it. I imagine if bookies kept odds on that sort of thing, you could make a very handsome sum betting on it if it were true with just the change in your pocket. Where did the blood come from? How did it get here? 15 owners in 14 years and their families and company and neighbours was quite a few people to go through, and with none of them known dead, nobody bothered. There was Rum to drink.
