It was tuesday morning and I did not have to make muster until thursday at 8AM. Two days to visit St.Johns, a nice picturesque town off the water in New Foundland. There were for of us in the car besides myself, there was Champ, Dye, and Goss. All of us were still teenagers and very impressible.
It was to be a 90 mile trip over mostly a dirt road. It normally took two and one half hours. We had traveled about thirty miles through mostly forest when we came upon a sight I still have trouble with. Directly in front of us in the middle of the dirt road was an ape like creature vomiting blood.
Needless to say we stopped short as all of us got out of the car to investigate. The creature was huge. It stood a good eight feet tall and most have weighed at least twelve hundred pounds. His face despite being covered by hair was human like. It finally stopped vomiting and looked at us with sort of a pleading look. At the time I was holding a bottle of ginger ale and offered the creature it. He drank the whole bottle down and let out a tremendous belch. I swear it felt like the ground shook. I noticed the creature was of the male species. It made a very light whimper noise as this must have been his way of communicating. To think something as large as it would be so audio ably low.
The big guy after belching seemed to know us as his friend. Because he scurried up a very large tree broke off a big branch covered with berries and dropped back down to where we were standing. He offered to me the huge branch covered with the berries. I took a berry off the tree, it was delicious. All four of us cleaned the entire branch of the tree with the berries and actually ate enough for a feast.
The big creature actually smiled to us and then scampered off into the forest. He disappeared from view, as we never ever seen him or his species again.
We had a great time in St.Johns as I was with my temporary girlfriend Mary Ryan. I told her about the creature and she just laughed in disbelief turned over on her side and made love to me some more.
