Upward I climb. One hand, one step at a time clinging to the hope of each rung in life's ladder.

“Climbing Upward”

Ever my thoughts turn always upward to You, almighty God. I seek refuge and help from only You. In Your secret hiding place there is great rest and peace. I take my human frail nature and set myself inside and enter into Thy presence. A place of rest, a place like no other, I find in Thee. I find enjoyment and I delight in Thy ways. There is love, great joy and a great separation from all adversity. No evil exists here. It is Your pure love that surrounds my life; there is a hedge of protection in Thee. Just the mere presence of You within this place illuminates all I see. The thief shall not steal my presence from You. I shall boldly rest awhile so weary of life’s woes. I shall make sure that I fill myself with Thee to be able to go on. The face I see each morning slowly fades and dies to itself. I pray earnestly to see the presence of You, Oh Lord in its place. Surely if I die to my human nature, I will be set free in Thee. The choice is mine to enter in, oh secret hiding place in the Lord. I say, “Yes, I wish to take refuge here, for here it is that my Master is.” I shall stay for awhile, and then take with me the glory and shining light back, in my thoughts, words, and deeds.” In my short, restful stay, I find such peace, love and comfort that shall go before me. I shall blanket myself in Thee, Oh Lord. You shall be my leading beacon of Light. Onward, upward shall my eyes long to behold the sweetness of Thy presence. Lord, You say to me,” Behold I am the Lord, your God, I shall lead you out of bondage. I shall hear your prayers and I shall give thee rest. Trust in Me and in Me alone.” I say, “Yes Lord, I am willing to enter in and then go on. I give back to this world, that which You give to me.” Willingly, I shall be bold in You. I shall endure and go on. I shall flee from all iniquity and shall say no to sin. No hatred shall I harbor in my heart, free me from all iniquity. Oh adverse spirit, I say be gone, flee from me. My God is greater, wiser, more powerful than you are. Take thy hands off of my seed and all that I build up in the Kingdom of God. Your end is near and my redemption is at hand. My Lord, my God I hear Thy voice, “Be of good cheer and remove the shackles that bind you.” Oh Jesus, Lord, I shall be set free in Thee. As a child I freed my mind and went on. Today I claim that innocent childhood and remember all the times You were so very near. Still holding me tightly in the palm of Your hand. It is a mighty hand. A protecting force that has always had an impact on my life, my faith lies within Thee. I believe that You are well and alive, ever ready to battle for me. I remember when I was young, how afraid I was to climb the slats on the giant tree. The tree that held our giant tree house, that stood so proud and tall. Oh how I climbed the slats one by one, not looking down, You were there. You lifted and pushed me upward and I reached the safety of its great wooden, slated walls. I stayed for a long while, not knowing how to get down. You were there also, as I descended downward to the ground. This is my life up and down, like the climbing of those slats of wood, those old crooked slats that reached our tree house in the sky. It is now, Oh Lord, that I am much older and I shall climb upward, and allow myself to conquer the fears that tried to destroy one’s courage. Upward I climb. One hand, one step at a time clinging to the hope of each rung in life’s ladder. Fearing not, and looking not behind, and taking courage, knowing that the right hand of God upholdeth me. As it is written, ”Fear not for I am with thee.”
