Cleo's blog

It was a gorgeous, sunny spring day but events of the last year had taken there toll and I was not feeling so sunny inside. I realised that I was finding it harder and harder to socialise prefering to stay at home with my cat and maybe write a poem or two. I realised that I was no longer contacting friends and unable to reach out to others.

It was at this time that  three friends in the space of a week suggested that maybe I should get a dog. My life long dream has been to have my own dog so allthough my mind was going through all the practical barriers to owning a dog my heart was pounding with the ache for a dog in my life. After some more thought I realised that my friends had had good insight into my situation and that  a dog would change my life in a really positive way. The practical side sorted, my desision made. I would get a dog.

Now came lots more questions to be answered, Which breed? Small or large? dog or bitch, Puppy or older dog? I decided on a small dog with intelegence ( I wanted to do some obedience work) I looked at some breeds online. Whilst searching I came accross a puppy. The moment I looked at her in the photo I fell in love with her, I knew she was the one, only prob being she was with a breeder four and a half hours from where I lived. I phoned the breeder hoping with all my heart that she would still be available, I already felt a strange bond with her. To my relief she was still available and the more I talked to the breeder the more I knew we were a match.

I had to go and see her, but not able to collect her until the weekend before half term meant two trips. My collegues at work thought I was crazy after all there were plenty of puppies(( even multipoos (maltese toy poodle crosses( which she was)) much nearer to where I lived, but she was the one and I just had to see her.

The day arrived to meet her. After a long journey my dad and I arrived at the breeders house. Walking in my eyes fell on her and I just felt such a rush of love. She was just eight weeks old and really small with short little legs and gorgeous silky fur. Like the breeder had said on the phone her nature was sweet and she was amazingly calm for a puppy, her brother making up for it getting into all sorts of mischief. Maybe she's saving her mischief for later? She climbed up onto my lap, put her head on my arm and laid there for 15 minutes content for me to stroke her paw. Her mum a toy poodle was such a lovely dog, sweet natured friendly and calm, also very obedient never having to have been walked on a lead.

When the time came to leave it was such a wrench, as I walked away from the house her little face looked out of the window at me, but I knew I would see her soon. The last few days have been spent getting her home ready for her arrival, My collegue said to me the other day, its so like having a baby, I said maybe I should ask for maternity leave. Although she isn't yet living with me she has already had such a positive impact on my life, I am looking forward to getting to know her, one week to go.
