If you only had one wish...

There was once a man of good intentions who knew not what he desired.  Through great fortune, and in an undisclosed way, he came upon a wish.  Having just one, he was unsure what to wish, as he did not want to waste such a once in a lifetime opportunity.  He began to imagine all the things he desired as he slowly drifted off to sleep.

As the fantasy of dreamland began to settle into his mind, he was soaring through the air, above the clouds, floating ever so lightly atop a nearby mountain range.  The landscape below was swirled with all the colors of his wildest imaginations!  He slowly dropped back down to earth and landed in the most beautiful place he had ever seen.  After spending the rest of his dream there, he awoke the next morning knowing exactly how he would use the wish.  He wished for all of his dreams to come true .

Immediately he was living on a huge estate on his own personal golf course just off the beach of his own tropical isle!  Everything was perfect!  He stepped out to his balcony and looked out to the open waters of the ocean, rolling in waves upon the beach below.  He started to remember his dreams of youth and suddenly everything he imagined appeared before him!

His first thoughts were of all the friends he remembered.  Then he thought of all the women he had known.  Then he thought of all the women he had not.  So overwhelmed by the reality of the fantasy, he spent little time interacting and more time just sightseeing his imaginations.  Like a child on Christmas morning torn between which of his new toys to play with, he just flipped through his fantasies as if they were filed on a roller index!

After a while he settled on the dream of his choice in which to indulge, for what seemed to be days and could have been, as now time and space were at his very control.  Finally, he chose a nice peaceful sunset, followed by a spectacular sunrise, and another, more radiant sunset to cap off the evening.  Nothing was outside the realm of normal possibilities!

As the hours passed he grew tired.  It was the end of a very long day.  So he headed up stairs for his nights sleep in his ultra king size bed with an overwhelming feeling of satisfaction and fulfillment!  With images of the most magnificent day flashing through his mind, He slowly drifted off to sleep.

Somewhere deep in the haze of dreamland, he began walking through his yard and into a nearby park.  As the darkness set in the landscape slowly changed till he was in a jungle.  He came to a rest.  He could not figure out just where he was.  Then he saw the hints of eyes glowing through the thick brush!  As he looked around he saw more of the same.  He looked back in the direction he had come from, but saw no trace of his trail.  He slowly began to make his way back, when suddenly he saw a light up ahead in the distance!

‘If he could only make it there’, he thought, as he headed towards the light!  He picked up his pace as he saw the eyes begin to close in around him.  He was now moving at top speed as he approached the opening from which he had earlier departed!  His heart raced as he moved ever so closer to the magical doorway leading back to his newly created fantasy world!

He felt more desperation with every stride as he closed in on his target.  Just steps away, he tried to imagine himself already there, sitting on the balcony, staring out to sea, but the subconscious had too strong of a hold on his dreams.  He could not break the spell.  As he lunged for his only way out, the mad rush of eyes closed in on him.  As the claws ripped through his flesh and his blood poured from his caucus he slipped through the portal and crashed to the balcony of his dreams!  Lying there mortally wounded he looked out to sea and the only wish he had was ‘he had not had a wish.’
