I had the pleasure of attending an NA meeting last week and it was great! I initially went to gather information for my next book but what I got even more than that was genuine love from recovering addicts who accepts the individual without judgment or resentment. The topic was self-acceptance and sponsorship.
The group stated the benefits of having a sponsor to call when the recovering addict is in need of guidance or when experiencing moments that may lead to relapse. It was also stated that sponsors are available 24/7 and are volunteers that are positive role models who help the recovering addict stay clean.
One of the principles I liked most is the "Gratitude In Action"...when a recovering addict reaches out to helpa a new comer, allowing the newcomer to feel a sense of belonging and acceptance.
Some topics the support group cover are:
1. Staying Clean On The Outside
2. Recovery and Relapse
3. The Loner- Staying Clean In Isolation
5. Just For Today
