A personal sharing of ideas and happening in my life on Feb 22,2010
Many of you know I was diagnoised with Alzheimers in 2007. I know I had it in July of 2006 as I was having memory problems then too.
The journey to NOW has been a long hard one with many ups and downs.
When I was first diagnoised, I felt my life was almost over and that with in the next few years, I'd be a vegtable, not knowing any of my loved ones. I began to prepare for the inevitable right then and tried to get important things in my life in order.
Depression, coping with misplaced items and memory loss plagued me.
I was allergic to Arceipt, so started taking Exelon, then Namenda twice daily. These two medications can be taken together and help to delay the onslought of this terrible illness which afflicts millions. I also take 1000mg on Vit B12 and 1600 mcg of Folic Acid daily Omega 3, plus 2000 mg of Cinnamon and other medications for my heart and bloodpressure.
My husband was diagnoised in Aug 2008 with Alzh and some form of Dementia plus he has heart problems, Lupus ect. Samuel, the oldest son was told he had Early Onset Alzheimers in Dec 2008 at age 49. Its been very hard for him, as he works at Publix in the meat department and is still having memory problems though he's on the SAME medications both my husband and I take.
I hope eventually his memory will become better like mine has.
I still read and research articles about Alzheimers.I try to bring hope to all of us. I know many are working toward finding answers, but I wonder if they will! Predictions for the future do not look promising as they say more and more will develop this.
Can you imagine a world with over half its people crazy?? Its not a comforting thought!
I'm thankful that I have my mind and memory back and can remember almost every thing. I never thought I'd be at this place in my life again. I'm so greatful for the reprieve!
I'm ataining goals I 've always wanted to reach.
I've written and published a children's story,"A Sight To Rememebr". I've written some poems and articles for the North Land Journal, and am working on another children's story, a book of my poems, plus a bio of my grt uncle, Clarence Bonnett. Life is good right now! I count my blessings!!!!
I try not to think too much about our future. If a cure is not found,I hope I die of something else. Alzheimers is a slow debilatating illness which can only end one way ... It's hard on those who have it and the caregivers too. All involved suffer too much! Sometimes I wish there was some kind of assistance for people who are slowly suffering and dieing. Sadly nothing exists to help them. It's an injustice, but a reality of our times.
I urge all of you to live each day to its fullest and savor special times with family and friends. Let our Lords light touch your lives and give you peace....MaryGrace
