The modern warship of American Idols

American Idolatry

Pop the star
Exploit the talent
Worship the screen

American Idolatry

Young men and women sacrifice their lives to the cameras, movies and television
No more space
No more privacy
Everything they do you can see
Young men and women sacrificed to the paparazzi

American Idolatry

Their tales are told like modern myths
Like gods and goddesses
Everyone knows their names
Shames
They glow on screens around the world
Shining from the television

American Idolatry

The electronic alter in the living room
Sitting in the place of a story teller
Wiping away centuries of oral tradition-
In less then a century of trivia
Trends destroyed tradition
As we watch stars pass away in a single season
Or fame for 15 minutes

American Idolatry

They come and go
Like a popularity contest on the big screen
Only the strongest ego can survive the onslaught of cameras
Some fold under pressure and feed the tabloids head shaved scandals
Beaver shots and unfortunate slips
The camera catches every move
Stars can’t hide
Everyone can see

American Idolatry

And young boys and girls grow up in reverence of those who glow with the aura of fame
They want to be the same
To spin the wheel of fortune and earn a multimillion dollar name
They want to be happy and beautiful
But the smile was an act and the beauty made up (makeup)
“But they have everything?”
Accept their own lives
On the screen told to be someone else
Living our American Dream, sacrificed to the camera and the media scheme

American Idolatry
