The title says a good bit. I almost feel like anything more might say too much.

The man awoke to find his television on, and wife missing. Never a good sign, he was still in a state of confusion. Certain that there would be an eventual explanation he decided to sit and wait it out. It had always worked itself out at other times. Deciding to just see what was happening, he sat himself by the phone. After all, he thought, there'll be a call soon enough. Unfortunately, he awoke several hours later to the phone ringing. This was not the call he wanted or expected.
"Hello," he asked groggily but with hopeful expectation.
"Lonely?" It was a man's voice that seemed to not expect a reply.
"Who's this," said the man with a slight tremor to his voice.
"Oh, I don't know. I'm just a man who knows these kind of things. Sort of a talent, you might say."
"Do you know anything about my wife?" The man had already grasped a pen and paper, anxious for an answer.
"Wife? What wife could that be?" The dark timber to the caller's voice was chilling in it's gruff indifference.
"Who is this?" The other man set the paper down and had noticed his shaking hands.
"I gues you could call me Gabriel."
"Like the angel?" The man felt toyed with and unfairly so.
He was met with silence until he heard the unknown caller's stinging laughter.
"Maybe like Saint Peter, hmm?"
"I don't know what the hell you mean," the man challenged.
"Look down at your hands," the caller's darkly playful voice returned.
As the man looked obetienly he was shocked to notice something.
His hands were empty, and the phone sat silently on it's cradle.
