Joe and the Library

I just thought this one up one day.

Early one morn' while watching TV
Something caught my eye
I turned my head and waving at me
Was a tiny little guy
I waved hello and rubbed my eyes
In total disbelief
The guy was wearing overalls
And was no bigger than a leaf
He said, "hello and how do you do?"
He said his name was Joe
I said, "I'm fine, nice meeting you
But I think I'd better go."
"Please don't leave." Joe said to me
"I need to talk to you."
"I got a note from the library-
today my books are due."
How'd he get books from the library?
It's too far away
I think I'm going crazy!
Is what I wanted to say.

He told me how he went with me
And said it wasn't easy
Riding in my backpack
He said it made him queazy
He showed me the note that he
Received in the mail today
The note said: please return your books
And do it right away
If his books are due, then mine are too
And we can't let them be late
so I told Joe to get his books and
A ride for him I'd create
Joe came back with his books in his hands
And now was ready to go
I put our books in my bicycle basket
And picked up Joe real slow
I sat him down on top the books
And tucked him in real tight
I told him to sit totally still
And hold on with all his might

We got to know each other
On our tiny little trip
Then I hit a bump in the road
And Joe just lost his grip
I stopped my bike and looked for Joe
But Joe just couldn't be found
I looked inside the basket
And everywhere on the ground
I searched for Joe and searched for Joe
And didn't know what to do
I just hoped he didn't get squashed
Or stuck to someone's shoe
Just when I started to give up hope
And think he was gone for good
I found him hanging from a sign
Holding on as tight as he could.

I helped him down from off the sign
Made sure he was okay
I put Joe in the basket
And we were on our way
We made it to the library
And still had time to spare
We decided to get more books
Some that we could share
We rode back home and went inside
It was getting late
We talked about our next trip
And how we couldn't wait!
Joe and I are best of friends
I'm big and he is small
We have even made some plans
To travel to the mall.
