The adventures of Destiny and Becca continue with their new friend, Mauri.

Destiny’s Closet
“Meet The Best Friend”
It had been an unusual day at summer camp. As Destiny’s Grandmommy drove on the expressway, she pondered the activities of the day. This time of day was one of those times that she reflected on the move of God during day.
“Father, I know that you are doing something special with Destiny and Becca,” she said. “Help me to be a help to Mauri and her mother.” “Talk to me about what is going on in their lives.”
            Silence. “Hmmmmmmm,” she said.
Just as Jesus talked with Destiny and Becca, He had been talking with Grandmommy a long time. So, she knew the voice of God. In fact He had been talking with her since she was Destiny’s age. That is one of the reasons that she so watchful of Destiny and Becca. God was doing an uncommon thing with them as He did with her.
Mauri’s mother met her at the door as she was waiting for her to get home. She had been out most of the day looking for a job.
“Hi Mommy,” said Mauri. “Did you have a good day?”
“It was ok,” she said. “I was looking for a job again.”
“Something good is going to happen for us real soon,” said Mauri. “I can just feel it.”
Just then the phone rang. Mauri answered, “Hello.”
“Yes, who is this?” she asked.
            “This is Destiny’s Grandmommy.”
“Oh, how are you Pastor Grandmommy?” asked Mauri.
“I’m fine,” said Grandmommy. “Is your mother at home?”
“Yes ma’am. Just a moment, please,” said Mauri.”Mommy, telephone!”
Mauri’s mother picked up the other extension. “Hello,” she said.
“Hello, this is Destiny’s Grandmommy. How are you this evening?”
            “Fine,” said Mauri’s mother nervously.
“Would have time to come by the summer camp tomorrow?” asked Grandmommny.
“Yes,” said Mauri’s mother. “About what time?” she asked.
            “Anytime is fine.” said Grandmommy.
As she hung up the phone, Mauri’s mother wondered about the meeting. She was hoping that this one time that they would be able to stay put for awhile. Money had always been a problem. It was just never enough for them to make it. It had been so hard on Mauri, every time that they moved. Now that she had made great friends, it would be even harder.
“What was that all about?’ asked Marui.
“Oh nothing,” said her mom. “I just have to meet with Destiny’s Grandmommy tomorrow.”
“We won’t have to move again, will we?” asked Mauri.
“Don’t worry so much,” said her mom. “Everything is going to work out.”
Mauri walked down the hall towards her room. She knew what had happened before with the bills. But this time it was different. She just knew it and she could feel it. Then she heard a voice. “Talk to me.” She turned around in her room and looked, but no one was there. Then she remembered something that Destiny and Becca had told her about Jesus. She wondered to herself, could that be Him talking to me? She said within her self, 'I’m going to ask.'
“Jesus, is that you?” asked Mauri.
There was no answer. She began to think and said within herself, Destiny and Becca said that He knew all about me and that I even needed a friend. She said aloud, “I’m going to try this once more.”
“Jesus, if you can hear me, me and my mother need you to help us. I don’t want to move again. Destiny and Becca said that you loved me. So, Jesus if you can hear me and if you love me, will you help us?” asked Mauri.
“Yes, I will help you and I do love you,” said Jesus.
“Oh, Jesus, you can really hear me and speak to me.” Said a startled Maui. “I never thought.”
“That I would answer you?” asked Jesus.
“I just didn’t know,” she said silently and began to weep.
“Why are you crying, my child?” Jesus asked.
“Because you are really real,” said Mauri through her tears.
“Yes, I am,” He said. “Do you know that I have been watching over you and your mother the whole time?
“No, I didn’t” said Mauri. “Jesus, since you have been with us all the time, I want to do what
Destiny and Becca did.”
            “What is that?” asked Jesus.
“I want you to be my best friend and come and live inside my heart and be with me all the time,” said Marui. “Starting right now, tonight!”
“As you have spoken, that it will be,” said Jesus.
“Jesus, can I tell my mommy about us/” asked Mauri.
            “Yes,” He said.
“Jesus, what about the closet thing that Destiny and Becca have? Will I have one too?” she asked.
“Yes,” said Jesus. “You can talk to me anytime anywhere. It doesn’t always have to be in the closet. That is just their secret place.”
“Ok. But I think I want a secret place too.” said Mauri. “Jesus, before I go to sleep, please make everything all right for my mommy on tomorrow.”
“I have already taken care of it,” Jesus said. “Now my child, sleep and do not worry.”
Mauri fell asleep very quickly. Her mother looked in on her and she could not believe that Mauri had gone to sleep so fast. She thought that she must be tired from all the activities of the day. Maybe this was one night that she would not have to get up and check on her during the night.
During the night Mauri had a lot of dreams. It seemed as she was about to wake up, she saw this bright light and felt the light on her face and go over her body. It was as if the rays of the sun were touching her. As she woke up and looked around, she thought that it was just the morning light coming though her window. Then she smelled something that she had never smelled before. It was unusually different. She wondered how that smell got in my room. The windows are all shut. She said within herself, ‘This is something that I need to remember just in case it happens again.’ Then she heard a whisper, ‘It will.’
