Journey To Truth
Sitting in the corporate office of the largest publishing house in the world, she was ready to sign a new contract. Over the years she had written many best sellers. The company had made huge profits with everything she wrote. Looking down at the signature line on the contract, she was hesitant to sign. There had never been a problem before in all of the years. It had been easy. But this time, there was a clause that she really did not want. This was the best contract as it was very lucrative for her and it was for ten years. The company had never given a ten-year contract to anyone. The problem was the biography clause. That was something that she did not want to do.
All kinds of thoughts flooded her mind. She was trying to remain clam in the midst of the negotiations, but her thoughts were racing all over the place. As she looked at each one of the team members at the table, she wondered who wanted to know her secrets? Somebody wanted to know something about her. Where would she start with this biography? What would she tell? Would she tell everything? What about the secret obsessions? Better yet, what about that affair? Somebody wanted to know something and she knew it. She could feel that this clause was about something more. But the question was who was it?
In recent years, with each book release, she had been hounded by the paparazzi. Speculation and innuendo from the gossip papers were at an all time high. It never seemed to let up. Some said it was because of her times of silence. But there was always someone from the past trying to enlighten the public about her and saying that the books that she had written was about them. The truth of the matter was that she would never answer any questions about her past and that is what fueled the curiosity.
Knowing that this was the best contract that was ever presented to her, she still sat there looking out the window. My how her times had changed. She remembered the years of struggling when no one even knew who she was. She was just a self published nobody. She had to scrape and save just to get her ideas published. There wasn’t a local bookstore in her hometown that would carry anything she wrote. All of those times of setting up a table vending at all kinds of events just to get the word out and sell her books. One thing that she had was faith. Her faith was deeply rooted and she believed in her dream because God gave it to her. She never doubted or waivered, she just kept pushing.
She sat there smiling. Once she even ended up at a farm supply store in the country that was having a church event, which was a tractor show. It was uneasy at first. But the Spirit of God was with her. A fierce prayer warrior, she just believed, no matter what. As she looked at them looking at her, she said within, ‘ you have no idea who I really am.’
Sensing their impatience, she turned slowing and reached to pick up the pen. Everyone was looking and waiting. Her silence did that. It was an ability that sometimes set people on edge. They just could not figure her. To her silence was a great weapon, which kept her from emptying her mind, her thoughts. She had to work at it. It really came from that scripture about out the abundance of the heart, the mouth would speak. She was always determined not to let anyone know what was in her heart. Besides, her grandmother always said that no one would ever know your level of ignorance if you kept your mouth shut in certain conversations and it was not necessary that one speak or give their opinion on everything. Even though God created us to talk, sometimes we need to be silent.
As she signed the contract, with each stroke of the pen, she just felt something. She could not discern what it was, but it was there. There was a sigh of relief that was heard in the room.
“Where you holding your breath Simon?” she asked.
“No, I just never know what you are going to do,” said Simon. “You just seem different on this one.”
Pushing the contract forward to the middle of the table, she still felt something.
“Well, there it is,” she said. ”You think that you have me for a decade.”
“Let’s see what time brings,” said Simon.
“I think that I will do something spectacular that you could never have imagined,” she said as she stood up to walk out of the room. Shaking hands with everyone, she looked deeply into their eyes as if she was saying something. Actually she was, in her spirit. They had no idea what was to come.
Many on the team that was assigned to her had no idea who she really was and what it took for her to get where she was. Well it is a new season and they were about to be in for a ride and an awakening. Did they really think that in the midst of all the riches, the glitz, and the glamour that she had left her first love? The appearance of her nature was deceiving. She may have been in the midst of them, but she was not one of them. Was it because of the controversial nature of her books that they would assume that she was no longer a Christian or even a lukewarm backslider? Something was up and it was on as far as she was concerned. It was time for the warrior to arise. But had she really been deceived?
The elevator doors opened and she stepped in. Still could not shake the feeling that something was different. Something had happened in her spirit. Turning around to face the doors of the elevator she noticed that she was the only one. Just as the doors were closing, she felt a wind, a breeze blow by her. Then she felt as if the elevator were going up too fast. But it was not even moving because she had not touched the buttons yet. As she reached forward to regain her balance, before she knew it, she yelled out, ”Jesus.” Instantly, she heard His voice, “ I got you.”
Standing there with her eyes closed trying to get herself together, a tear flowed down her cheek. Shaking her head and saying on the inside, ‘My Lord.’ Her mind began to race again, ‘was this a time of visitation?’ Just then the elevator began to move and go down. She didn’t even remember touching the buttons. She had a lot to think about. This was going to require much meditation and time with the Lord. She had to get herself together. The elevator doors opened and the light was so blinding that she could not focus her eyes. For a moment she forgot what it was like to be who she was. Putting on her sunglass before stepping out made it easier to navigate through paparazzi. In that instant she made a decision. She was going to write her own biography. It would not be in a couple of years. It would be the first thing to hit the press from the new contract. She was going to bring the bio clause out first. They wanted it and she was going to give it. The irony of it all is that they do not even have a clue that they set her up to be another place.
Well the biggest question would be where would she start? There really is so much to tell. Maybe she should hold some things back. Would they be able to handle the days of drug dealing in college? That was a very little known fact. She definitely had to be careful about the affairs. Some of them may still be alive and around lurking in the shadows. The flight attendant years would really scare them. Especially the parts about all the crews that was high. That little episode in the fashion industry would add a twist. It would really blow their minds about how this famous one got to be famous and it was all because of what happened one night. It is amazing how one night can launch you into arena that you have to work hard to stay in.
The time she almost overdosed would definitely have a chapter or two. And those high society parties with every kind of freak that you could not even imagine. She had really seen some things along this journey. Even the time that she heard the audible voice of God would be in it. Her mind continued to be flooded with many thoughts of her past. All of the encounters with the Holy Spirit would be in it as well. Would she expose all of those lustful preachers that she met in the early days? They all wanted to take advantage of her. They all had a scheme. It was awful. The real part that got her is that the congregations trusted their lives to these people. Well, at least she kept her integrity in that area. No man of God can say that she succumbed to his desires.
They wanted a best seller and they were going to get it. It would be one all to the goodness and the glory of God. She was going to tell the truth and tell it all. Who else could tell it but her? All the others may be able to gather information, but they could not give the depth of her emotions seeing her life through her eyes and the eyes of God. No longer would she be held in bondage to the shame of her past. The wrestling match was over. She was one of the redeemed and she was going to say so!
