Is bad behavior an inherited trait?

I was so sad when I read Ginny's letter, she is the woman who was reared in a shack with other siblings, no father, and a mother who made her children give sex for food and other favors.

Ginny  and I had worked together and became close friends. When she asked me to go with her to visit her mother I didn't hesitate to say yes.Even though prepared for it, when I saw the way
she lived, I understood how Ginny had done such immoral things.

Now. all these years later. after Ginny had reformed her ways, married and had three children, it seems her oldest daughter Lucy has become a major
problem with drugs and  men. However the worst of it is even more difficult to understand. From what Ginny has told me I know  Lucy was an excellent student until her junior year in high school. That was when she started acting strange. Ginny and her husband tried to find out what was happening. It wasn't easy, because everyone liked Lucy, and didn't think she had any problems.

However, Ginny found her sneaking home drunk a few times, after everyone had gone to bed.Lucy tried to deny it,but then cried and asked her mom to forgive her, that she just wanted to be friendly with her schoolmates, and only tried one drink once in awhile, which she didn't like.

Ginny wanted to be an understanding mom and have good communication with her children. She knew how difficult her life had been. Ginny hadn't told her children about her life, and her husband
refused to let them meet their grandmother. Ginny told them she was dead.

Now she wondered if it were true about some traits being inherited. She became agitated and wanted to keep Lucy home, but Lucy was 16 and all
of the girls her age were much more advanced than she was, in knowledge of worldly ways,Ginny admitted that she had been too strict with her religious upbringing, but her own miserable life
had made it seem right to her.

Ginny and I began a series of phone calls since a few thousand miles separated us. I learned of how Lucy had fallen into a terrible predicament.
Now several months have passed        things are concluding. It all came to a head when Lucy could no longer hide the fact that she was pregnant. She
then left home to live with whom she said, was the boys father.

Ginny and her husband had tried to intervene but after talks with guidance counselors, clergy and Lucy herself, they decided to let her stay with her boy friend, who was 20 yrs old and in
college pursuing a law career. That information made it a lot easier to leave Lucy with him .  If only they had known.

As weeks turned into months, Ginny became upset because Lucy and her boy friend Ted, kept making excuses of not accepting Ginny's invitations to
dinner, and wouldn't let Ginny visit them in their apartment. She finally made a decision to go to their place in a surprise visit.

She had been ringing the bell and banging on the door, while talking to Lucy on her cell phone. So she knew Lucy was home. Finally, Lucy opened the door a crack and said "Mom please go away, I can't let you in" She had tears running down her face her eyes bloodshot her face ghostly pale. Ginny, with a strong assaullt pushed  past her, then stopped in shock as she looked around.

Lucy was sobbing while begging her mom to please leave. Ginny put her arms around her daughter and held tight"Lucy,I can't let you live like this, please let me help you no matter what the situation, we can work it out."

The apartment looked like a garbage dump.It was small one bedroom living room kitchen combo.Lucy said"Mom I have to lie down before I fall I'm dizzy."Ginny helped her to the bed, then went looking for her coat. she found it and said to Lucy,

"Let me put this on you, hold onto me, I'm taking you out of here now." Lucy tried to stop her, but was too weak, so she let her mother drag her to the
car,without much resistance.

Ginny said "I'm taking you to the doctor, then we'll go home, and you'll never have to go back to that apartment again." Lucy was weeping silently,
murmmured her answer," I'm too weak to care anymore."

After the doctor visit and stop at pharmacy for medicines, Ginny and Lucy were now home, and drinking tea in Lucy's bedroom, where she was
ensconced in her bed after a refreshing shower.

Now thanking her mom and God for bringing her out of the prison she had been in.Ginny said"Lucy please tell me what this is all about. No boyfriend could let his girl live in the condition I found you in. You know anything you say to me will not be repeated, and please knowthere isn't anything you tell me that will be a surprise."

I'm so ashamed mom,I don't know what to say.

Just tell me the truth, Lucy, and get it out of your system!"...

"Okay mom I'll try .I'm too tired to go into long explanations, that can come later. I thought Ted really loved me, it was a shock to me when I found out he was gay...

"Oh my god Lucy, Ginny interrupted, he's a homosexual?

"Yes mom, and please let me finish so I can sleep"

"Sorry dear,go on"...

"The worst of it is  his partner told me the whole story of why he used me for his scheme. The guy he lives with, his name is Luke, told meTed was   brilliant always coming up with ideas to make lots of money, and had this  shrewd plan to get a stable of girls to have babies , then sell them to couples who pay hugh prices to adopt babies on the black market, without having to go through lots of red tape etc. Also Ted planned to marry me after the baby was born, to give him more power over me.

"Ted chose me because I was gullible, and he knew I'd be too afraid to tell you or anyone what he was up to. He also has a  plan to refute what I say. He
doesn't live with me, he lives with Luke. He pays for the apartment, but is never there, so he can say, he was doing me a favor, so my family wouldn't find out I was pregnant. It's my word against his. He used me as a test case and after the baby is born, already has a couple picked out to sell it to. He wants to make sure everything goes right, before he puts the scheme into full action."

Lucy, I'm so sorry you had to go through this, let's thank God you are home safe, and out of his clutches. We'll let dad get his lawyer to see what can
be done. Don't worry you don't ever have to see Ted again. Get some sleep now, we'll talk more later, you can hardly keep your eyes open."

While Lucy slept, Ginny cried and prayed for a swift and helpful conclusion to the despicable situation. She prepared Lucy's favorite chicken rice soup. The doctor had told them the baby was due in two months, and Lucy had to eat right take her medicine and get healthy for her babies sake. Lucy had
admitted that Ted had brought her good food and many times restaurant meals she liked, but when he left, she threw them in the garbage out of spite.

Last time he had seen her he warned her to clean up herself and the apartment  or he would punish her
in some way. She ignored him. By this time she was sick , weary, and didn't care what happened to her and the baby. Ted had kept her in the apartment
like a prisoner by threatening her with terrible things she believed he would do.

That evening Ginny's hisband came home and Lucy was still asleep. They discussed what had happened.
Lucy's dad said, "I'm feeling the urge to kill right now Gin, I can't believe our daughter could get involved, with a low coward like that, she let it go too far!"

"Perhaps you're right David, but we kept Lucy too innocent, and we are reaping what we have sown."..."Baloney Gin, there really isn't anyway to avoid a mess like this. Lucy is old enough to make wiser decisions, she just made a wrong choice, don't go blaming us for not wanting to teach her about the crap of the world! Besides she knew better, once she became aware of her circumstance she could have come home any time."

They were both surprised to hear Lucy's voice,"You're right dad, but I was too afraid. It isn't your fault or moms, it is my own fear, and I'm weak willed because I want everyone to like me,and I always trust too much."David took his daughter into his arms, saying," You
may be right dear, but we do share in some of the reasons you made your choices. Let's not play the blame game. I thank God you're home again. We
will work it all out. That piss-ant Ted may be shrewd, but he's a loser, and will be dealt with as he deserves!"

Getting caught up with everything at the dinner table,Lucy said,"I'm so thankful to be home, I hardly know what to say. I should have had the sense to come home sooner."

"Lucy , we all could have done better in hindsight answered Ginny I should have tried to reach you sooner."

David spoke up, "Remember we said no blame game! I want to know how this all came about Lucy, just so I'll know what the legal status is."

"Dad, I went out with David because he was so cool, and all the girls were after him. It was a feather in my cap, kind of thing. If only I'd known he chose me because I am so dumb... When I
first went to his apartment, we just drank some green tea and I know he put something in it that got me high...It wasn't until I'd been with him about five times. that he got me so high
I hardly knew what we were doing when he had sex with me."

"That bastard"said David...How many more times did he use you?"

"Dad, please don't get excited, I feel bad enough,I don't want to hurt you or mom."

"Sorry honey, go on, said David,I won't interrupt again"...

Ginny just sat and listened with tears making a contiuous trail down her face...

"We did it, I think ,four 0r five more times. When Luke Ted's lover spoke to me, he told me that Ted made it clear he only did it that many times to make
sure I got pregnant. He also said if the two of them (Ted and Luke) were the only ones to make the girls pregnant, they could make all the money and
besides have lots of off-spring to keep their line going into the future They laughed about it."

In the following months, a lawsuit was filed against Ted, and the situation was ongoing. After the letter Ted had received from Lucy's father ,he hadn't tried to see her or make any contact with her. Even after the birth of the baby,  a girl, who died at childbirth,
there was no contact. It happened that Ted left town one night and hasn't been seen or heard from since.

Lucy's dad dropped the lawsuit since Ted was gone and there was no baby, he thought it best to put it all behind them, but said "he'd better never come back here"

Lucy is coming to grips with all that happened. She realizes it was a blessing the baby died at birth. That it was lack of nutrition, makes her  guilty And a deep loss makes her sad. After having spent
a month with her aunt  (father's sister) on a farm, she is regaining health and mental balance. She also is now in therapy . The family has survived and prays to overcome the communities spotlight of negativity.

Ginny spoke on the phone with me last night , thanking me for being there for her to unload on. Of course it wasn't like that, and I'm always here for her, as I know she would be for me We gave
thanks that all is now settling down, and life can again have happy days to balance the sad ones.

Eileen this is truly an eye opener...yes I remember previously reading your story about Ginny and her life style and early upbringing...Oh my what a miracle that Ginny was able to go over and rescue her daughter, and I surely hope all has went well and is positive and nurturing for the daughter/baby now.
Hmmm wondering did they try to report this to the authorities, just hope so! These acts are surely criminal...I will return to read more of the sequel as Aberjhani says "What a gripping story"!

Take care and many blessings to you,

What a gripping story. Such a strong pulsation of love moves throughout GINNY'S DAUGHTER SAD SEQUEL. For all of its pain and sordidness, too much of which is quite real in the modern world, this story illustrates for me the belief that forgiveness remains one of the greater components of what we call Love. It is what opens the door to the possiblity of healing and moving forward in life.

A good example of those who coddle their kids. There is always a time when they break free, often with tragic consequences. My brother and I shared a one-room shack with our 17 yr old mother and odd job dad.

Later, living in an urban slum, we were given much responsibily and never got in serious trouble.

Thanks for sharing.

This is so very typical of the times we live in, for wherever there is an innocent guillable child...a monster lurks in readiness.

Ginnie had overcompensated because of her own life by sheltering her daughter, just a little too much! It is a natural phenomenon that follows the abuse cycle. I know this because as a child, I was bashed and belted sensless some of the time. I hated abuse under the guise of disclipline, and so therefore turned a blind eye to many of my own daughters antics. The result today, is that she dosent have an ounce of respect for me, I am nothing more than the dirt under her nails!
Won't make the same mistake with the others, in respect to "Turning that blind eye. The abuse...I still abhor.

very, very sad story and Thank God she got out of the situation...sadly there are many families that keep secrets...I can relate...an older sister found my father after 18 yrs. of searching, he was never told that his high school sweetheart was pregant, the parents took her and moved away and then made her give the baby up...the adoptive parents told her when she was 18 and she started searching for my dad...

Thank God there are "good people" who out there who will help another...

A good story about what can happen. I can't help but think though that if these parents had be truthful and explained the pains of Ginny's childhood Lucy would have had more strength to call her mother sooner. I know parents who have kept secrets like not telling their first child that the second childs father is his also and it's not a pretty sight when the child finds out the truth. Lady J
