A Wicked Twist Of Fate
by Ron Dondiego
This is the last in a series of 36 poem stories on the book of Acts which I would like to publish
The End of Acts
By light of day they found to be
On the shores of Malta Island free
Where Paul gathered wood for a fire
And a snake sneaked out from under the mire.
The snake which was of a poisonous kind
Bit Paul on the hand and upset the mind
Of the natives watching in despair
As they saw the Viper hanging there.
Paul shook the snake into the fire
With no ill effects he could then retire
As the Maltese proclaimed him as a god
And worshipped the ground that he had trod.
Paul healed the father of his host
So all the people thought him the most
And brought their sick that he might pray
To take the hurts and sickness away.
After three months they continued on to Rome
To be tried by Caesar in his home
But first they were met on the Appian Way
By the Roman believers of that day.
Paul was allowed his own place to stay
But a soldier stayed with him night and day
So he asked the Jews to come to his home
That he had rented in the city of Rome.
He told them why he was there in chains
When he would rather be on his way to Spain
And after many hours of reason from the Book
Some were moved to take a closer look.
Now to the rest Paul quoted old Isaiah
Who was often read before the fire
“You do not hear though you have ears
And your eyes cannot see through endless tears”.
For two whole years Paul preached to all
Who came to his house for a welcome call
And for all this time of Christ he taught
And by His grace our salvation is wrought.
