fictional story of good and evil.

We walk amongst the street at night and people fear us.

We are not meant to be feared, we are meant to help, to love and be loved. Mistaken as vicious killers we are outcast into a world that people do not understand. We are talked about as if we do not exist. I have spent many lives trying to make things right to make what happened justifiable and trying to redeem myself and all of mankind for the mistake we had made.

I am here today to tell you all what happened that fateful day so long ago. So much has happened since that day and it’s hard to remember the details of that life that has past so many times. So I will begin like this.

Back then I was called Dominik Umpire. I do not recall all my lives or what came before that fateful day long ago, this however, I shall never forget…

I remember a man called Jesus and it was said that he was born the son of a great master. He told stories of a day when earth was created and an invisible man who ruled this world. We all thought this man crazy, a man who intentionally reeked havoc on the earth this earth, he spent his days turning people against their leaders. Then one day he was caught and guilty of his crimes we stood together to destroy him for his madness. I was amongst those who rallied to destroy him. The crowd was larger then any I had seen before.

That man stood before the crowd and took a beating the world had never seen. They forced his bloody body to stand and walk carrying a great wooden cross through the desert and I was compelled to follow him. He staggered along the desert for a great time pulling this cross with him. I remember wondering to myself why he didn’t retract his statements, why did he insist on this absurd story and rebel against our ways. As he stumbled to the ground dropping that cross it occurred to me that perhaps he does believe what he says. And for that should he be punished to die this way? I ran forward as they began to beat him for falling. I helped that man to rise and carried that cross with him through the desert. He told me something I will never forget.

“Dominik,” he said to me, “You are a great man, and you have come to help me against all others. For that you shall be blessed. I have a great many brothers and sisters that need help as well, for they know not the dangers they will place themselves in. For this you will be blessed never to die so that you may help others who cannot help themselves.”

He broke a piece of wood from that massive cross and handed it to me. “That stake is riddled with my blood; once my blood flows through your veins you will have life forever. You will eat and drink the blood of the lamb and I shall guide you with the knowledge that you will need to make it through this world.”

Before I knew what he meant we stumbled to the ground and that broken piece of wood cut deep into my heart. This was my first death, that day, my blood mixed with that of the blood of the Christ and I was reborn on a Sunday several days later.

I was born in the next life with what you people now call mixed nights. As a baby my days and nights were confused. I slept during the day and spent my nights awake, unable to get back on track with the normal world. I started to show symptoms that were labeled unusual, and eventually was outcast from the other children.

Languages meant nothing to me and I was able to understand people who couldn’t even speak. Animals seemed to communicate to me as well, not a word just an understanding. I was born with strength that scared other people and I grew up with an understanding of purpose. I knew that my time on earth was to be spent rectifying the cause of a man I had spent the last lifetime defying.

I have been born each life with increasing compassion and empathy for mankind. This empathy makes it impossible to become to close to people, even if I wanted to. I walk the night alone outcast from society but compelled to save them from the demons of this world. I believe you refer to them as sociopaths or “The soulless” born of the blood of Satan as every such demon must be. Those who feed off of the blood of mankind and enjoy it; they then manipulate humanity walking amongst us as equals disappearing as another face in the crowd.

In each lifetime I am born different then others raised with knowledge others do not have and sleep rarely and because I am different society fears me. They label me and thy fear me. They laugh because I fear a wood stakes and crosses. Wouldn’t you if it had once killed you? I live because the blood of humankind flows through me, the blood of Christ.

Through those lifetimes I have loved many women and sired many children, all who were born, unbeknownst to them, had my blood and the blood of the Christ flowing through them as well. They were also born with an inability to sleep through the night and they were born to understand people and animals better then most. They are born with the knowledge that they must walk the night helping those who cannot help themselves.

Eventually the rumors will come to be that a beast walked among the world with unnatural strength. He lives through the night because daylight will kill him. He survives on drinking the blood humans. He cannot die save for a stake through the heart or a cross touching the skin. He has sired many men and turned them into beast as well. Because he does not like the cross he must hate the man who carried it therefore he must be evil.

They even changed my name from Dominik Umpire, to Count Dracula Vampire.

It is amazing how people can know so little and talk so much. How they can ignore the good I have done for them, the sacrifices I have made, the lives I have lived to help them, in order to cast away someone who is unlike themselves. Then again, many lives ago, I did the same thing until the day a man gave me a sliver of his cross.

Interesting...This would make a great novel. I like the explanation for the origin of vampires and the twist of them being good and totally misunderstood.

Great narration in this, Crissy. I found the voice of Dominik to be authentic and it held my interest all the way through. The content is good, and it makes me want to read more of it.
