finding my voice

Jimmy's best hope for writing a good piece of writing has been a long time in coming. Since he found this old typewriter at a yard sale, he seems to want to try again.

Jimmy woke early. The sun was rising, red—red like fire. His hope was that he finally came through with a good piece of writing. It had been a long time since he had been able to sell anything. Maybe this typewriter he found would bring some luck. Jimmy looked at the sun and remembered the old saying, “Red sky in morning, sailors take warning.”

Looking up at the red skies had a special affect on Jimmy. A sense of luck filled his heart after so much disappointment.

"This typewriter is a sign of better days ahead! I even want to write again. Even about silly things and serious thoughts too. I
feel that I am finding my voice. It seemed lost for so very long!", Jimmy touched the windowpane and let the moment linger
a little longer.

He knew he didn't want to waste another minute waiting for the story to come to him. He was going to create the story!

The effect of a special typewriter on a writer that has felt
uncertain if he had the talent to write anything someone would
want to read, to feel this wonder and excitement of words
in his life is a turning point, a fork in
the road so to speak.

This day of red skies and quotes from sailors. Jimmy hasn't
thought such thoughts for years.

He knew then and there. There is a story just ready
to be written. And he was going to write it!

Rushing up the stairs to his bedroom, he stopped for a moment,
just watching the desk, where his pens and pencils, so neatly
placed on his desk. He felt for the first time, this is where
he wanted to be.

Writing his novel and this broken down old Smith-Corona, even
though the ribbon was worn and the keys faded, was the engine
that would drive him to his dream for the world to hear
Jimmy's true voice for the very first time.

He walked over to the desk, placed a clean sheet of white paper
into the typewriter, and his wonderous imagination...
"The color of rainbows fills my senses after the rain...I walk through
the meadows filled with wildflowers and I bend down to take one
in my hands. He closes his eyes and smells the daisy. The dewy fresh scent is a thing of beauty almost as pretty as the daisy itself.

This reminds him not to take life so very seriously
because happiness is found just around the next bend. Simple
things like daisies, rainbows and a nightsky filled with stars are
like a special gift that makes us happy to be alive.

And after the rain comes the rainbow...

because tomorrow will be sunny again...

Wise words and to me, the typewriter is like a symbol, a talisman. Thank you for sharing, Katie. Love and best wishes,

Regis
