Poetic Coup Part II The Enlistment

Part II:  The Enlistment

Stirred by the words of this immortal to be my mind romaticized the notion of giving into the primal instinct to rebel as my feet subconsciously took the ground between my last thought and the enlistment alter. Overcome by the sheer anxiety of the unknown and the elation of change to come my knees buckled at the base of the alter. I was on the brink of a panic attact until Sergeant Pietri offered his words of encouragement. "Rise Warrior! Let your conscience be known. Raise your pen and rewrite the pages that have been written for you." Instantly I stood, a man of good conscience and free will. As I signed my enlistment oath the page burned behind each pen stroke consuming everything but my words. I was amazed yet terrified of such a sight as to which Sergeant Pietri explained, "A poet's words should last longer than the pages they are written on."

Taken with part one, this reads for me as a wonderful parable on the evolution of an individual's consciousness to accpet its calling to pick up the pen, go forth, and poeticize with all the heart, truth, and integrity at one's command. Much gratitude for the read,
