A Hot Dog interview.
I was living in Northeast Georgia at the time and was grateful for a chance at a road trip to Atlanta. It was a beautiful spring day, I guess 1993, and I was going into town on business. That meant once again I had a chance to eat a heavy-chili dog and a double chili-cheese burger with pimento cheese at the Varsity. This place is culinary Heaven. If you never have had Varsity, you don’t know.

Anyhow, when I was leaving after getting my chili fix, I came out to find a crew from CNN doing a "man on the street" interview about the resumption of bombing Iraq because they had violated neutral air space.
I watched a couple guys being interviewed, then the director looked at me and said “Ok, you been watching for awhile, now get over here on camera.”
I figured he was looking for an opinion, and I had one. So he asked on camera and I told him, “If they flew into a no fly zone, then they violated something and got what they asked for.”
Then he asked me what I thought about Saddam Hussein.

I looked straight into the camera and said,
“We should have taken care of him when we were there two years ago.”

When I said that, I saw the director doing a fist-pump off camera. He said, “Thanks man.” I said.”Ok,” and went my way.
Funny thing, that was just the kind of comment he was looking for, and I was on all of CNN's coverage every half hour for the next 24 hours.
Let me say at this point that I don’t feel like this was my fifteen minutes, maybe five.
But anyway, everywhere I went for about a week, people would ask me if that was me on TV. It got to the point that I got a little paranoid that Saddam had seen it as well and said, "Take care of me! Take care of him!" Then told somebody to take care of me.
Thank goodness that didn’t happen, but six months later, I was in Orlando, Florida eating dinner at a resturant bar. The fellow next to me asked me if I was someone on TV. He said he recognized me from somewhere.
Just five minutes, I figure is all that was, just a fluke.
I think I have at least ten more minutes.
