In their thirties, Michael and Michelle Martin symbolize average married couples living in equally average homes and towns throughout the United States. But average doesn’t exactly describe them.
The letter M, revered in the small town of Marietta in Morton County, is part of the town’s annual spring festival. An event residents look forward to after a harsh winter. A few years ago Michael and Michelle won the title of M & M couple. They won for several reasons. The judges took into consideration their names, jobs and popularity. Michael works for the Marietta Gazette and Michelle the Martin County Bank. Second is their dog, a Labrador named Mike and hilltop home located on Maple Street near Mayflower Place. A five year residency requirement completed the qualification. With all those M’s the whole town expected them to win the prestigious title hands down. Since then, with delayed plans for parenthood, life has been perfect. Two incomes allow them to travel, socialize and engage in leisure activities without a care in the world. That is until fate, with the aid of a mystical force, decides otherwise.
