A story of starting over.....to sum it up.

My Dad remarried in August of 1989 and I missed the reception for I was out-of-state going to college in Fulton, Missouri at William Woods University and paying for about 80-90 percent of it on my own. These were the "Good-'ole days" when private tuition was cheap! Only around $23,000 a year! Now a days, it costs about $40,000 a year for a private school! That was back from the years 1988-1992. That seems like an eternity ago! Actually, it has only been 16 years since May 5th, 1989 when I was first diagnosed with my first brainstem lesion.

No one expected me to survive longer than 2 years when I was first diagnosed. Well, I showed that doctor and the neurosurgeons after him as well! I have had a Total of 14 Shunt revisions and 1 craniotomy.

Last year, on August 9th, 2004, I had my annual MRI of the brain to check for over-growths of lesions or tumors, etc. My neurosurgeon is tired of me, I am sure, but I get it checked Every year and this year I am so glad I got it checked! I have a "hemangioma" on my skull that covers the left parietal region. I assume they cannot take it out because of my Left Ventricular Pleural Shunt. I am about to raise some Holy Hell next time I see him which will be soon!

That is basically my background of where I am coming from concerning medical issues. I spent a whole decade and beyond from age 19 to age 34 Fighting for my life after having radiation and being in the hospital for operation after operation. Various body parts included here. I am having problems again now and just ask for your prayers. No need to go into details each time I am sick, correct? Correct. This also includes brain rehabilitation last year! That was scary!

All of this leads to me going from an Independent, thriving person who was on a Computer Programmer's wage salary in Missouri in Jefferson City down to a person who has been on Social Security Disability since October 1995 (I believe). I make enough to buy my medicine and pay a few bills. I suddenly started getting Disability checks from where I worked for they considered me an "LTD" which means "Long-Term Disabled or Disability". So, my wages have increased a little bit more and I can contribute to the household more. Things were getting bad where I lived in Roanoke, Texas and my landlord Raped me, in essence(date rape) so my elder sister who was living with me and Mom moved herself and I out to Dallas. MUCH better living situation.

I am learning how to get around town on the bus, by myself and taking care of my pharmacy bill which HAS REDUCED to $450-500 a month and maybe even LESS this month! I am looking forward to a small bill on July 3rd! I get all my scripts once a month now. It is easier that way. Disability comes once a month. I am cooking more meals in the apartment too! Good for me!

I have enjoyed this learning process while living with my sister, Kristina, but now it is time to venture out on my own, yet again! It has been almost 10 years since I have lived Independently in Jefferson City, Missouri 65109. God speed and as of August 1st, 2005 I shall be INDEPENDENT and on my Own yet Again!
