Charlie wanted to spend the rest of the night by himself, so he went to the one place that brought him happiness, the stables. The sound and smell of the horses had always been comforting to him. He climbed to the loft and sat in the opened door. He took off his pistol belt and got comfortable. The wind picked up a little, and the clean smell of the mountain air mixed with the hay stirred though the opening. A light rain started, and Charlie sat listening to it on the roof.
