this will be a childrens picture book combined with this very short story.

Mary stared up at the sky. She knew about “Twinkle, Twinkle little star” but ..

. She wondered about the moon above. She thought to herself ‘why does the moon have so many shapes’?

She asked pumpkin her stuffed bear but he did not know.

She asked the dog laying on the carpet by the fire,

she even asked her cat midnight laying on the foot of her bed but he did not know..

Since none of them knew the answer, she decided to ask the owl outside her bedroom window.

The owl told her, “the moon travels through the sky watching over all good children in the world as they sleep to help keep them safe.

the moons different shapes come from whichever way he happens to be looking.

because there are so many children to watch over, it takes the moon a long time to turn his head.

When you see a full moon it is because the moon is looking at you and smiling because you are being good.

When you see a half moon you are seeing just one side of the moons face because he is looking at another good child.

When you see just a sliver of the moon up in the sky it is because he is looking at the children on the other side of the world.

On some nights when the stars are bright you can’t see the moon at all. This is because it is so much work watching over you and all the other good boys and girls that he needs to have a nights rest.

Mary was happy to hear about all the different shapes of the moon. She was also glad that the moon was looking over all good boys and girls around the world.

Mary thanked the owl for his help and then she quietly got into bed felling safe because she knew the moon would watch over her in her sleep.
