Imagination
by Neil Ostroff

What if everything we perceive, all we experience, is just a figment of someone else’s imagination? And what if that someone is dying?..

Phydoux -- Talking Driver

Phydoux went for a drive and couldn't believe all the modern conveniences.

I went on a ride with my master. We haven’t done this in a long time and I was really enjoying myself. I got to sit in the front seat and put my paws on the armrest. Then, all of a sudden, the window started going down. My master yelled, “Get your paws off the window button!” I didn’t know a button rolled the window up and down. I thought there was a crank. I guess that shows how long it’s been since I rode in the car.

After the shock, another was ready. A woman in the car next to us was talking. That’s not unusual until I noticed there was nobody in the car. I looked in the front seat and then in the back seat. She was there all alone – and she was talking!

I watched for quite a long time. She laughed. Great big laugh. She shook her head. She made motions with her hands. She looked puzzled and once she looked angry. But she was in the car all alone.

I tried to get the attention of my master and motion for him to look at her. Wish I could talk. I made all kinds of signals and he just could not understand. “Phydoux, you are a crazy dog. Yes, you are. You silly dog.”

As I took one last look at her I noticed she had a crazy looking thing on her ear. I’ve never send an earring like that. It even had a flashing blue light. I put this picture in my memory and looked it up on the computer. She had a blue tooth. Perhaps she had been eating berries or something. With more research, I learned that she was talking on a phone. I can’t believe it. What will they think of next?
