Once upon a time, there were three ants. The first ant lived in an old cracker jack box that someone had thrown on the ground, and people called him Toney. The third ant built an anthill in the crack of a very old beat-up sidewalk to live in, and people called him Hunter. The second ant lived on the roots of a big maple tree in an old couples backyard, and people called her Laura. Everyday the ants go out of their houses in search of food, like crumbs that people have dropped on the ground and then take them back to their houses to eat.
One day, Toney went around looking for food for breakfast and came upon a big grasshopper. Toney was scared to death of this big monster and started shaking. The grasshopper asked Toney, "Why are you shaking, is that food to heavy for you?" Toney replied nevously, "Maybe." Then the grasshopper asked, "Would you like me to help you carry it, nothing is too heavy for a big guy like me!" Toney said, "I guess yeah, that would be nice!" So Toney gave his food to the grasshopper, and it all started out good. But a few steps down the road the grasshopper just took off with ALL of Toney's food! Toney was mad and very hungry, and he had to go back and get all of his food again.
The next day Hunter went out in search of food for supper. He finally collected it all and was on his way home when he saw the grasshopper. He was so frightened becuase the grasshopper was so huge and Hunter started shaking. The grasshopper asked Hunter, "Why are you shaking, is that food too heavy for you?" Hunter replied nervously, "Maybe." Then the grasshopper asked, "Would you like me to help you carry it, nothing is too heavy for a big guy like me!" Hunter said, "Well that would be nice, I guess that's okay." So Hunter gave his food to the grasshopper and it all started out good. But a couple steps down the road, the grasshopper just took off with ALL of Hunter's food. Hunter was mad and very hungry, and he had to go back and find all of his food again.
Then a couple days later, Laura went out in to find food for lunch. She found the best lunch ever and she was so happy. On her way home she saw the big grasshopper and she just started laughing. The grasshopper stopped and asked, "Why are you laughing, let me guess that food is way too heavy?" Laura said, "No it's just right, I wont need any help today, I can do it by myself. Have a nice day!" and she walked away. The grasshopper was shocked about how brave she was to stand up to him like that, but he was so mad that he had to skip lunch that day! The grasshopper flew away very mad and decided to not go back there again. Thanks to Laura, the ants lived happily ever after
