Being in balance with Jesus and with yourself is very important in the life of a Christian. Here's how!!
By Angela Posey-Arnold
I seek You with all my heart…………… (Psalms 119:10 NIV)
I felt as though I knew him before I actually met him. He was already my brother in Christ and I had never seen him face to face. On a hot Alabama July day I had the experience to meet him face to face in my home. Brother Fred Yazzie had become a household name in my family. Everyone had met him except for me.
12 years ago my parents began a yearly mission trip to the Navajo nation in Ojo, New Mexico. There was a small congregation of 5 members at Ojo United Methodist Church and they needed help in many ways. Over the next 12 years the church has grown to over 100 members and their building is truly a place of worship that they love. The Pastor of the church is Brother Fred Yazzie.
Because of my disabilities I don’t get to go on the mission trips with my family. Every year they have more missionaries. The mission grows and grows. They have Bible School for the children and adults. They have construction crews that build and repair the church and parsonage. Navajos are taught about Jesus and His incredible love. It has also become a mission to help the Navajo with their livelihood, sheep. A veterinarian goes on the trip and vaccinates the sheep at the sheep camp. Feeding and caring for the sheep and feeding and caring for the shepherds.
Jesus said, “The third time He said to him, "Simon son of John, do you love Me?" Peter was hurt because Jesus asked him the third time, "Do you love Me?" He said, "Lord, You know all things; You know that I love You." Jesus said, "Feed my sheep. (John 21:17 NIV)
In 2003 I was slowly recovering from a terrible car wreck. It had been two years since the wreck but I still wasn’t over it. Suffering with pain in my neck, back and hip I just couldn’t get back into a balance. And I couldn’t get into my “new normal”.
My husband was busy building our new log home and I was busy becoming a writer instead of a nurse. A day pretty much like any other I had no idea of the blessing I was about to receive.
Brother Yazzie had come to Alabama to speak to the churches that send missionaries to Ojo. He made time to come see me. My parents brought him into our home and into my heart. He is Navajo, short in stature but huge in heart and in Spirit. The love of Jesus shines in his sweet face.
We walked up to the new home site where they had just finished the new fireplace. As we gathered in front of the new fireplace in the great room—the heart of our new home, we held hands as he blessed our home. He took some oil and blessed the house by placing the oil on the rocks of the fireplace as he prayed for us and our new home.
We let the men get back to work and my parents and I walked back down to the mobile home where we were living. He loved our place here and we talked and laughed as we walked back to the mobile home.
Before he had to go he asked me to stand up. He asked if he could pray for me. “Of course, please do.” I said.
As I stood up he said, “Now, do what I say and do this everyday.”
This is what he said. “Stand straight and tall and hold your arms out to your side. Straight out. Now bow your head and let us thank Jesus for the angels that He sends to help you. Bring your hands together like you are going to pray. Now look at your hands.”
I opened my eyes and looked at my hands. Even though I thought I had them together with both finger tips touching, they were ‘out of balance’ with one lower than the other. He said, “Bow your head again and put your arms out again. Again he prayed for me. The sweetest prayer I have ever heard.
Then Brother Yazzie said, “bring your hands together again”. As my head was still bowed I slowly brought my hands together again and they were perfectly balanced. He said, “You must stay in balance with Jesus and do this everyday.”
“Every day, stand and put your arms out and tell Jesus how much you thank Him, Praise Him and love Him. Then bring your hands in and as you are ‘in balance’, turn your head to the right and say, ‘Thank You Jesus for the angels you send to the right of me’. Then turn your head to the left and say ‘Thank You Jesus for the angels You send to the left of me’. Thank Him for the angels He sends that are in front of you and behind you. Be in balance with Him everyday. Thank Him and Praise Him.”
Now, when I “get into balance” I turn to the east, just in case when I look up to thank Him one day, He will be there in the clouds.
