This is just a Christmas story that I hope will spread good will.
Well it’s that time a year again where friends and family are gathered around us. Christmas time is right around the corner. Children are being extra good and the teens are sneaking in a kiss under the mistletoe. Grandma has knitted warm mittens for the twins while grandpa smokes his pipe and looks out the window at the new snow. He remembers what it was like to be a child again. He watches the children run up and down Macumberland Hill and wonders if grandma could still skate at the frozen lake down below. It was a winter wonderland white and full of joy.Bobby and Suzan hold hands as they skate around the frozen lake. They smile at each other from time to time knowing they will never be as happy as they are right now. The smaller children skate around the two love birds laughing and poking fun at them and the mood they’re in. Jake falls down and his cronies come falling after. That’s what you boys get laughs Suzan and offers her hand to help them up. They all blush and giggle because Suzan is so pretty. The only things hurt were the boys pride and off they skate to bother some other star stuck lovers. On Macumberland Hill the boys plan their war. The walls made of snow are built up extra high and Timmy and Joe are busy making lots of snow balls and talking about last nights game where the Dolphins finally won their first game. The girls ask the boys if they could build them a house, and of course the boys all laughed and said “NO WAY!!! That’s for girls.”Some of the Kids were sledding down Macumberland Hill like they were pro skiers at the Winter Olympics in Lake Placid. Jamey raced every girl on the hill because his thought was “Boys are better than girls.” He didn’t plan on losing to Laura this year, like he did every year before. The real truth about it was, Jamey secretly had a crush on Laura but didn’t want anyone to know. The war had started and the snow balls flew like an ancient war in Siberia. You could hear boys shouting from both forts.” I got you Timmy” yelled Jonnie, and then Timmy fell slowly like he was going for an academy award for best death seen in a movie. The girls sat to the side with eyes wide open in hopes of seeing their hero Joe come charging over the fort wall to kick in the other boy’s fort. They acted like “Boys are so immature,” but always had time for Joe. He was ruggedly handsome for a boy of 10.Night time was falling upon the Hill and people were turning on their Christmas lights. The Hill took on a different glow. Mothers were yelling for their children to come in for supper. While fathers shoveled off the sidewalks new snow. The houses smelled like cinnamon and every one of them had a beautiful Christmas tree and a Nativity scene on their buffet. Candy Canes hung on every branch, Stockings hung by the fireplaces with care in hope that St Nicolas would soon be there.Jesus has come home from a 9 month tour in Iraq and his wife Mary is expecting any day now. What a wonderful treat it would be to have a child on Christmas day. Even though they don’t have much in the way of money, they have each other and who could ask for more.Give to those in need and you will be blessed for it in oh so many ways. You may not believe in God or you may believe in something all together different, but you know right from wrong and you know what karma is. Be good to one another if only on Christmas day.The carolers come by everyone’s house and the baritones could be heard singingGod rest ye merry, gentlemen, Let nothing you dismay, Remember Christ our Savior Was born on Christmas day, To save us all from Satan's pow'r When we were gone astray;O tidings of comfort and joy, Comfort and joy, O tidings of comfort and joy. From God our heavenly Father A blessed angel came. And unto certain shepherds Brought tidings of the same, How that in Bethlehem was born The Son of God by name: O tidings of comfort and joy, Comfort and joy, O tidings of comfort and joy.The shepherds at those tidings Rejoiced much in mind, And left their flocks a-feeding, In tempest, storm, and wind, And went to Bethlehem straightway This blessed babe to find: O tidings of comfort and joy, Comfort and joy, O tidings of comfort and joy.But when to Bethlehem they came, Whereat this infant lay They found him in a manger, Where oxen feed on hay; His mother Mary kneeling, Unto the Lord did pray: O tidings of comfort and joy, Comfort and joy, O tidings of comfort and joy.Now to the Lord sing praises, All you within this place, And with true love and brotherhood Each other now embrace; This holy tide of Christmas All others doth deface:O tidings of comfort and joy, Comfort and joy, O tidings of comfort and joy.The fireplaces are all lit and a comfortable glow is on everyone’s face. Rusty the cat lies all curled up on a rug in front of the fire place purring away the days last light. It dose not matter if you’re Black or white. rich or poor, healthy or sick. God bless each and every one of you this Christmas and I hope you have a safe and Happy New Year.

It's a good story, but it would be more readable if you break up the paragraphs. :) (I've had to learn to do this very thing myself.) Well penned, though.
(((HUGS))) and much love, your friend in Tx., Karen Lynn. :D |
