"Snow! Snow! Snow all the time, twenty-four hours a day! Is it ever going to stop?????"

Blondelle Hawkins is snowed in, thanks to back-to-back blizzards that slammed the Washington, D.C. area. She also has no power.

Washington, D.C., February 11, 2010~

Dear Journal~

Blondelle here.  I hope you are doing well; as for me, well, I'm snowed in.  Snow!  Snow!  Snow all the time, twenty-four hours a day!  Is it ever going to stop????

Can't get out of my house, due to all the snow that's piled up outside.  Drifts higher than my head; you can't even see the roads!  Also wrapped up in several thick blankets; no power!  Dam'fool blizzard killed our power, thanks to hurricane-force winds; thankfully those have moved on, but it's still pretty breezy out there.  Don't know when we'll get our power restored; until then, I'm using batteries to run my computer laptop.

Oh, great!  Just heard that more snow may be on the way:  and over 30 INCHES has already fallen here!!  Not good, folks; not good AT all!  We're calling this a "Snowpocolypse!"  Snowfall of biblical proportions here; it's like God's forgotten to turn off the snow-making machine!  It's incredible!!

I'm more than ready for spring to come!  I haven't been out of the house in over a week and a half:  just about everything's closed!  I can't even get to work!  That's not helping pay the bills!

I am happy to say that my brother, Tyvarial Manuel, who is sixteen, is out of jail, but he's on probation.  If he messes up (uses drugs) again, he could be put away for a long time.  He is trying his best to behave; we keep telling him to stay away from his pals; they are a very bad influence on him.  It is great to have him home, but since his time in jail, he's been very quiet and reserved.  Don't blame him.  I think he's sorry for getting into trouble.

It is still snowing lightly here; the heavy snows have moved on, but as I said earlier, the weather gods are forecasting more snow.  I certainly hope not; we've had far too much now!  I'm more than ready for spring/warmer temperatures!!!!

We even had "thundersnow": thunder and lightning with snow; it's extremely rare!  Whenever that happens, that means the low is close by, and as much as three inches of snow (or more) can fall in an hour!

It was very freaky, seeing lightning and hearing thunder during the heaviest snowfall!

Well, my battery is starting to get low; computer is fixin' to fitz out on me, so I will go.  I will write in here again soon; be praying that the snow stops soon here!  We've had more than enough of winter!!

~Love, your friend, Blondelle.  :(

Living in Florida, I can't imagine what it must be like to be snowed in like Blondelle. I fuss about these cold spells, but at least I can go to the store.
Such snowstorms must be terribly bad on the economy. I was recently told that some states are feeling the brunt of recession because when people aren't buying they aren't paying those taxes that the state depends upon.
I really enjoyed your story. It's well written and interesting.

Never heard of a thundersnow. Sounds like ALOT of snow. Great story once again Karen.
