A gay couple is about to become parents to a little boy with special needs.

Image (c) 2011, by Karla Dorman.

Van and I were destined to become parents.  I knew it deep in my heart, and it looks like our dearest wish is about to come true .

I have been with my partner for twenty years now; he is the best thing that could have ever happened to me.  He is my rock, my support system, my best friend.  People often don't understand us, but that's okay.  I often don't understand them, or why some people feel like they have to judge/condemn us because "we aren't like them".

So freaking what.  If we love each other, shouldn't that be the most important issue here?  And shouldn't we be allowed to have a family, too, just like anybody else?  We aren't hurting anybody or anything: we're just two men who happen to love each other very, very much.

Anyway, back to my story.  About a year ago, Van and myself applied to adopt a child.  We didn't care if it was a boy or a girl, black, white, or any other ethnic background.  We also didn't care if the child had special needs or was healthy.  We were ready and willing to love the child and nurture it to the best of our ability.

Well, on Monday, we got The Call, the Call that has changed our lives forever.  We heard from the adoption agency.  They told us about a little boy from China (aged about two years) who was in desperate need of a home/family.  The little boy in question was deaf and mute, but he was otherwise healthy.  His name was Xin Quao Po.

The adoption agency has mailed us a picture, so we will soon see what our new son-to-be will look like.  I dearly hope he looks like Van.  LOL  Van is Chinese-Phillipino/French, and he is a real dreamboat, if you ask me.  I'm not so much in looks: greasy-looking dirty blonde hair that is always flopping in my face, a skinny, pointed face, and big ears.  LOL

Ever since, we've beeen knocking ourselves out trying to find a baby bedroom set on sale and scouring for baby clothes.  We've hardly been home; we've been shopping and trying to get our place ready for our brand new son.

Son.  What a magical word!  Soon we will become parents!  It may be several months in coming, but at least we can get little Xin Quao Po's bedroom ready!  I am so excited (as is Van); I cannot WAIT until we have our little boy here with us! We are going to give him a very good life, and I hope that he has everything he can ever need!

~To be continued.~

A child should have two loving parents. All that matters. May not agree with the lifestyle, but the child having a home and love is what is most important. Well done.

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.
