A young boy who has a strange bone disorder updates us on his life.

My name is Lucas Drake Ibbotson.  I am 10 years old.

I also happen to be disabled.  I was born seemingly  healthy, but at six, a bad fall from a slide caused my bones to weird out and go into hyperdrive.  Instead of mending and then stopping for six weeks, the "mending" continues and now I am literally turning into a statue.  It's getting harder and harder for me to move around.

I now have to use a wheelchair.  It is too much of an effert for me to walk without severe pain or difficulty.  It's a pain, but at least I don't have to worry about pain or fighting to walk normally (which I don't; I limp).  What's worse is when people give me pitying looks or treat me like I'm some sort of breakable object instead of a kid.

I have been in and out of the hospital for different things, among them pneumonia, osteomyelitis (bone infection), and severe pain in my joints.  I've also been to and from different doctors, to see if there is anything to halt the rate of bone growth, but so far, no luck.  I hate it!

My sisters Lark and Kiera have been good to me.  They defend me from the bullies at school and threaten to beat them up if they tease me.  I appreciate that; nobody likes to be teased, especially me.  I have a problem that is not my fault and I wish kids could look beyond the wheelchair or the way I walk or move!

I still try to keep my mind occupied by doing things I love: reading, playing on the cmoputer, playing my video games, writing stories or poems, or watching tv (American Idol is my favorite show; watching it now as I type this), and going to church.  I also love looking at nature's beauty and taking pictures.

Well, I'd best go; I want to watch the rest of my show and not miss a thing!  Then I will have to go to bed so I can get up for school tomorrow.  I will write in here again soon; sorry it's been a long time since you heard from my mom or pop or me!  Take care and God bless!

~Lucas.  :)
