Sunday, May 13, 2012~

Today was a nice day.

It was Mother's Day and today, Herschel (my husband) and our two kids treated me to dinner out after we went to synagogue.  Then we went to the park and let Rachel (six) run around while Herschel and I played with our son and made him laugh.  He loves the attention we lavish on him.  And we love hearing his childish giggles; to us, it's like music to our ears.

Jacob, who will be four in November, enjoyed the freedom of being taken out of his wheelchair and placed upon the blanket we laid upon the grass.  Jacob has Canavan disease: he will probably never make it to his sixth birthday or even beyond, but we remain hopeful that he will in fact, live longer than what doctors are predicting.  Jacob is a little fighter; he is still going strong.  He is absolutely amazing!

Since getting the G-tube placed back in April of this year, Jacob has not been in the hospital with pneumonia.  He is healthier now than he's ever been and we no longer have to worry so much about him choking or ending up with another case of pneumonia or another respiratory infection.  Small blessings.  We pray this continues.

Jacob remaining healthy has been my greatest Mother's Day gift so far this year.

We know that anything can happen (Jacob can have seizures as well as breathing issues), but we do breathing treatments and physiotherapy to help keep his lungs as clear as possible, and we give him his meds via his stomach tube.  They keep his health in check and for the past two months he's enjoyed relatively good health.  We are truly thankful to Yeshua for this.

Rachel made me a beautifu card at school last week: it had a painting of red flowers in a purple vase and it said "Happy Mommy's Day to my bestest Mommy!" on the cover.  On the inside, Rachel wrote:  "Thanks for loving me and brudder [brother]; love, your girl, Rachel (and Jacob)."  It was absolutely darling!  We put it up on the fireplace mantle as soon as we got home from lunch.  It remains there as I write this.  I look at it and tears prick my eyes.  Rachel put a lot of work into her card!

The weather here was pretty today: sunny and relatively cool, with delightful temps.  We may get rain by tomorrow evening and then off and on for the next few days, but today was perfect.  I couldn't have asked for a nicer Mother's Day.  Even the weather co-operated by giving me a present.  :)

Well, I'm going to go.  Time to change Jacob and give him his evening "meal"; it takes an hour for the stuff to empty from the bag into his belly.  Then I will give him a bath and put him to bed, and then put Rachel into bed by nine as she has school tomrrow.  (Jacob goes to bed by nine; Rachel goes to bed by ten.)  I will write in here again soon; take care and Yeshua bless!

~Love, Beth Rosenblatt.  :)
