A boy struggles to survive after a nuclear holocaust.

Image (c) 2005, by Karla Dorman.

I feel as if I'm the last person on earth ...

I'm surprised I survived The Great Terror, as I've come to call the cataclysmic chain of events that wiped out just about all of mankind and life as we once knew it ....

I sit here, alone, in the desert, looking for any sign of life or civilation around me.  I see nothing.  It's as if I'm all alone, with nobody to help me or talk to me ... it's a very unsettling feeling.

Two weeks ago, space aliens invaded Earth and did battle; it's obvious that we, the Earthlings, were not the victors.  Life as we once knew it has all but been obliberated.  No more telecommunication systems.  No more busyness.  Everything around me (and just about everywhere else) stands barren, empty; most of earth has become nothing but a veritable wasteland. Big cities that once thrummed with activity have become virtual ghost towns and the smaller cities have been wiped off the map.

To stay alive, I eat bugs that I see crawling on the ground or dig for water, anything to get needed moisture.  I have lost weight and resemble a concentration camp survivor.  My clothes are beyond repair and are probably going to rot off my body until I stand in my birthday suit, vulnerable to the elements and God knows what else.  The only "hidey-holes" I have are the caves that aren't too far from where I am at the present time.

I don't know what is going to happen to me, but I do know this much: if I don't get any substinence in my system soon, I might as well hang it all up and curl up and die ....

~To be continued.~

I often wonder if survivors of such a cataclysmic event could somehow cope, and somehow survive, especially in this spoiled modern era of ours. One of my favorite TV shows these days is 'Falling Skies' which depicts such a group of survivors and how they now attempt to cope.
