Identical twin bides his time to get revenge in post-Civil War Galveston Texas.

In any set of twins one is usually recognized as the leader. This was the case with the Carlisle boys in Richmond of the early 19th century.Luther always appeared smarter and bolder. He led his twin Randolph into many misadventures. And Luther always managed to pass the blame for their misdeeds on to Randolph.***Years later as he approached his seventieth birthday, Randolph remembered the past and moved cautiously toward a decision he had considered for fifty years.Luther's insensitive words and actions had hurt him many times. He had also trampled on the hopes and dreams of many other people. Now Randolph planned his revenge. He would rid the world of Luther.A day after his monumental decision, a letter arrived from his brother in Galveston, Texas.Luther commented on the fifty years since they last met. And he invited Randolph to come for a visit. There was something they needed to discuss. Two days later Randolph was on the train headed west. And several days later he was riding another train past a cemetery on the outskirts of Galveston. He could see a large canvas tent as the train chugged past the burial ground.Luther waited in the station, still larger than life in his buckskins. After a short ride in a rented buggy, Luther led his brother into his hotel room. He divulged the reason he had contacted Randolph. He had won a treasure map in a New York City poker game and wanted his brother to share in his adventure to Brazil to find a hidden treasure.Having no intention of being led astray again, Randolph sat back and let the old windbag talk. He had been duped by Luther too many times in their youth to fall for this latest scheme. The last time had been the worst and Randolph still cringed when he considered what a fool he had been.Luther had convinced a much younger, gullible Randolph to leave his beautiful new bride and join him on a trip to Colorado to work a supposedly gold-rich stake Luther had won in a card game.On the morning they were to leave, Luther apparently took a tumble down the steep stairs in Randolph's home. The doctor confirmed Luther's leg was definitely broken. From his bed of pain, Luther generously insisted that his brother go ahead to work the stake. He would follow as soon as his leg healed.(To Be Continued Soon)
