One of my many short stories

There was an eerie silence in the office as Lindsey and Megan come through the doors. As they make they’re way down the hallway they can see all they’re coworkers gathered up around the reception desk. Approaching the others the two girls see tears in the eyes of some and a shocked looked on many others. Megan asks, “What happened?”
Charlie heard the voices and thought he could fly last night.” Bob says with a sarcastic tone.

Charlie shaves as he gets ready for work, his eyes are blood shot from lack of sleep the past few nights he hasn’t been able to sleep. The voices have been keeping him up. The voices have been telling him the things he needs to do and the things he has done wrong. They start again he tries to ignore them as he shaves but they just get louder. This time telling him don’t go to work. He tries to shake them out of his head but they won’t stop. He finishes shaving and washes his face off, as he is dressing the voices tell him don’t go to work come with us. Let us show you how to take what you want, steal, cheat and lie. We know the way to get everything you want and not work for it. Charlie puts on his shoes and goes out the door to head to work. The whole way to work the voices play games with him, telling him swerve at cars in the other lane. Stop fast make the car behind you slam on its brakes. The voices continue all the way to work, Charlie keeps fighting them off and not doing the things they want him to do. He walks into the office, Mary greets him politely and the voices tell Charlie, tell the bitch to shut up! Charlie shakes his head the voices continue all day, every time someone says or ask him to do something the voices tell Charlie to be rude and defiant. By late afternoon Charlie’s head begins to throb he hears ringing in his ears. The lack of sleep is beginning to catch up to him. Charlie begins to listen to the voice becoming rude and defiant to everyone in the office. Around the office people begin to talk, Charlie has never acted this way always polite and eager to help. Two of his co-workers go to the boss and tell him that something is wrong with Charlie.
The boss goes to Charlie to find out what is wrong? Is it personal or if something has happened at work. When he confronts Charlie, The voices tell Charlie send him packing it’s none of his business, you don’t have to answer him. Charlie becomes argumentative with his boss and tells his boss to shut his pie hole and leave me alone. The boss tells Charlie to leave for the rest of the day and come back tomorrow with a better attitude. Charlie takes his hand and knocks everything off his desk sending everything flying. Charlie stands up flings his chair across the room and storms out of the office. The voices tell him, that’s it Charlie take no shit from anyone. Charlie gets into his car and begins to leave the parking lot when the voices says, Charlie isn’t that your bosses Cadillac. Charlie stops and then pushes down on the accelerator and rams into the Cadillac. The laughing from the voices rings through Charlie’s head, Charlie backs away from the Cadillac and pulls out into the street. The voices tell Charlie you better speed up the police will be coming. Charlie listens and speeds up going down the street he is coming up on a red light, he lets off the accelerator.  No Charlie don’t stop keep going, Charlie shakes his head no, people are in the cross walk. Go Charlie they will either move or get run down. Yes that’s it run them down Charlie, Charlie speeds up heading right at them, as pedestrians scatter he bares down on them. The voices laughing and yelling, yes Charlie. Charlie strikes one of the pedestrians sending them flying through the air, Charlie sees the pedestrian land behind his car in the rear view mirror. Charlie speeds on with the voices cheering him on now, hit more Charlie. Charlie speeds down the street now swirling to hit people. A couple of time he drive up on the side walk once to run down and old women with a walker. The voices yell mercy killing!
Now several police officers are in pursuit of Charlie, the sirens ring loud in his ears, the voices keep saying don’t stop, go faster Charlie. Charlie speeds down the street  running into other car and hitting more pedestrians. The police are closing in on Charlie, Charlie speed towards the freeway, the voices tell him if you make it to the freeway you will get away. Charlie makes it to the on ramp hitting speeds well over a hundred miles and hour. The voices laughing, yell go Charlie, as Charlie begins to pull away from the police he sees a bridge ahead of him. That’s when he sees the road block at the other end of the bridge, Charlie slams on the brakes and stops about half across the bridge, in his rear view mirror he sees the police behind him closing in. The voices tell Charlie get out and run, run to the edge of the bridge and jump you can fly Charlie. Charlie gets out of his car and does run, just as fast as he can and when he gets to the railing on the bridge Charlie takes a big leap over it. He spread his arms to fly but he is falling and falling fast, the voices seem to leave his head and from behind him he hears them call out to him, goodbye Charlie. Charlie screams out within just feet of hitting the water below.
As Charlie opens his eyes he sees a woman all dressed in white standing over him, “Welcome back Charlie the anesthetic is wearing off, you will be fine. Your surgery went well.”
“The voices said I could fly I jumped off a bridge.”
The nurse wipes his face, “Just a bad dream from the anesthetic Charlie.”
