The Farmer's Market

When I was still living in Georgia I took a group of kids on an educational tour to the Farmers Market near my dad's house.  This market is huge and has foods from all over the world.  Our guide for the tour showed us unusual fruits and veggies from countries that none of us had even heard of.  This place has everything.  We were walking through the meat area and the guide was telling us about the different kinds of meats: buffalo, ostrich, some I couldn't even pronounce.  One of the kids, they were ages ten to thirteen, saw a package of meat and turned to me and said, "Ms. Cheves, what are mountain oysters?"  I knew what they were but didn't know how to tell him, so I told him to ask the guide.  She had heard his question and I'm sure she didn't want to explain either so she quickly rushed us to another section.  If you don't know what mountain oysters are, all I'm going to tell you is that they come from the pig in a very private area.  You will have to look to someone else if you want a better answer.  But one of the things this market did sell were freshly baked peanut butter cookies with whole peanuts in them, and I always bought a couple of packs when there.  But since I'm 2 states away and my dad has passed away I seldom go back to the Farmers Market.  So I decided to make them myself.  After many tries and many mistakes I finally came up with my own version of Peanut Butter Cookies which can be found on page 74 of my book Stir, Laugh, Repeat.  I hope you will enjoy them as much as I do.
